why arnt some games backwards compatible

I'm trying to play batman arkham asylum and city on a series x and it's not backwards compatible. I don't understand why tho seeing as there is all the other batman games added. I know they have the remastered versons of these games but i prefer the originals much more. There is alot of games that are missing as well I have noticed in the past. Will they games ever be added? as well why arnt they backwards compatible already?

It's important for you to know that during Xbox's 20th anniversary, it was officially announced that no more backward-compatible games will be added to Xbox. This decision was made because the capacity limit for adding new games to the catalog had been reached due to license, legal, and technical restrictions. This means that the current backward-compatible game catalog is final, and that is why other games, like the ones you mentioned, are not part of the backward compatibility catalog.

As some additional information. to the answer already specified.

The backward compatible game while it is the same game the download is basically different version of the game, being the backward compatible version of the game. This is also the reason why inserting a backward compatible game via disc will result in the
backward compatible version being downloaded (disk is still required to start the game)

So in order for you to download that backward compatible version you will have to login to the Xbox Live Account that is used on the 360, which allows you to download backward compatible games that you own.

While it is true that backwards compat is on hold. Every backwards compat licensing has to approved by the developer for that game to approve the ability of backwards compatibility. There are some developers unfortunately that will not allow there games
to be backwards compatible .

There is a problem that some DLCs are not available on Xbox ONE for Xbox 360 games. I do not understand why backwards compatibility is so why DLC is not available. But it's a few games.
