They don't do anything. Are they supposed to control my cable box DVR? The Xbox itself has no DVR (which makes no sense).

The xbox will switch channels on my tv but that's about it. Are there other commands it will do?

    :)

I did some of my own investigating.

The one problem I see is if your cable/satellite box is also a DVR. It seems to me that we will need an HDMI splitter between the box and the X1 so that you can use the DVR as one does now (since I don't think the X1 will control those functions) and yet
still send live TV to the X1 to do what it does.

Why wouldn't it be able to control DVR functionality? It provides it's own guide and controls the channel changing of the cable box, DVR controls should be a cinch.

Would this work? (Cable box idea)

Maybe not using the X1 to do so, but I don't see why not. Once the X1 is in live TV mode we should be able to do whatever we do now without using the X1 to control things. The X1 wouldn't know what you're doing with your normal remote control.

Everything would still flow through the X1 whether you use the X1 to control live TV or your normal remote to control live TV and/or a DVR/On Demand.

Upon further research it looks like it should control the DVR on my cable box. Or at least the recordings. But it won't.

    From the user guide

OneGuide is not designed to control your DVR. You can use your DVR remote control to access your recordings or schedule new ones.

Note OneGuide’s playback controls (fast forward, rewind, play, and pause) will work with your DVR recordings.

If your cable box/cable provider supports pause, rewind etc for live TV... the controls will work to do that. As will the triggers on the controller. You have to have the proper device set up in Devices under the Xbox one settings. For example, I have
a Cisco 8742HDC when I chose auto when setting up my dvr (entered Cisco for name) it returned the wrong Cisco code and I could not pause live TV or use the controls. When I chose Manual for set up and entered 8742HDC for model it all works fine now. And
those controls do work when I am watching recorded shows om the Cisco box.

I'd like to know too. At a minimum, you should be able to control live TV and use the DVR remote while the X1 is in live TV mode to control the DVR recordings piece. I am also hoping for some sort of TiVo support. I am guessing that a lot in this area
    may come with later updates.
