Why are my controllers switch rb and lb to rt and lt

I'm using the regular wireless controller.

Am I able to switch LB and RB to LT and RT on the Elite controller?

Settings -> System -> System Info, now type each one of these codes then a prompt will come up asking to rest the xbox to default, if none of them work, you'll need to call Xbox Support at 1800-4MY-Xbox.:

If you’re seeing unexpected controller behavior across all game and apps, it could mean that your controller button configuration has been remapped. To check your current controller button settings:

Press the Xbox button to open the guide.

Under Profile & system, select Settings.

Under Devices & connections, select Controllers & headsets.

On the screen for your controller, select Configure.

Carefully review the current mapping for each of the buttons on your controller. You can also restore your controller to its default settings to set the controller back to its original button mapping.

Before you begin, disconnect your devices (HDD, memory card).

Go to settings, console settings, System Info.

Finally made one code that follows (depending on the model of the console this may vary):

-LT, RT, X, Y, LB, RB, X, Y, Y, X

-LT, RT, X, Y, LB, RB, X, Y, X, Y

-LT, RT, X, Y, LB, RB, X, Y, right, left

-LT, RT, X, Y, LB, RB, X, Y, left, right

-LT, RT, X, Y, LB, RB, X, Y, up, down

-LT. RT. X. Y. LB. RB. down. down. down. down.

So a message appears offering to reset console settings, you just have to accept.
