Why am i unable to change my gamertag?

I recently joined the Xbox community because I bought an Xbox console and created an account but there seems to be some sort of error when i try to change the auto generated gamertag to a custom one, For over a week, I have been trying to change my gamertag without any success because nothing happens when I press confirm and the process will not be completed. I have used my phone, pc and console yet i receive the same result. I contacted support multiple times and they either say that there is some system maintenance going on or that I have to try again in 24-48 hours. These answers do not help me because the support doesn't understand that I have tried every possible solution for over a week. Can someone please help me solve this problem or figure out why the process wont finish so i can change my gamertag?

Hello Echo_242, by your description if you already contacted Xbox support and they couldn't help you, you'll have to wait or contact them again.

That's because only they have the necessary tools and information to help you in these cases.

the gamertag currently linked to my wild account is my old one. No points,friends nada. How do i change this to my current gamertag? i am unable to do this from the console as i am unable to reset the password linked with my old WILD id which was set up
when i bought the console 4 years ago.

Every profile takes up server space,which costs money.

If gamertag changes were free then nearly everyone would just be changing their tags willy nilly.

Xbox live would be littered with gamertags beginning & ending in xxxx or zzzz because a lot of people have no imagination.

Be thankful you can change your gamertag on xbox live,other platforms don't let you change your gamertag at all.

That's not very good reasoning when a single profile would end up costing something like $0.0000007 per year for the server space. Changing the name associated with a tag does not make any difference in the amount of space it consumes, unless the new name
happens be longer but even then it's a couple of bytes.
