    Why am I being charged to change my gamertag for the first time?


    I'm trying to change my Minecraft bedrock edition gamertag on the xbox website and I got through the whole process and it said my gamertag was available but it's trying to charge me $10 even though I've never changed it before. It says on the website and the support said that the first time you change your gamertag it's free. Does anyone know why it's charging me even though it has never been changed?

    How long have you had your account? If the account was created after that policy went into place (06/2019), you would only get the 1 chance for a change.

    The customer service said that with a new update with the gamertags that will allow you another change.

    If you were given a randomly generated gamertag when you created your account, you're given a free change to change that tag. If you chose your tag when you created your account, that was your free change.

    I'm having this same problem. I know for a fact that I would've changed my gamertag when I created my account if I could, since I tried to and it wouldn't let me. I don't know why it won't let me change it for free.
