White Dots on Games With Ray Tracing

Hi guys,

I am experiencing white dots on screen with games that have ray tracing like Watch Dogs and Gears 5. All other games are fine and the white dots only flicker on elements that I presume have ray tracing applied to them. Things like main menu and pause menu do
not display the white dots

AIso I have a 4K HDR TV and it is up to date

I am hoping this is something that will get solved with an update and not a sign of something wrong with my Xbox.

Could the GPU overheat when the console has only been on for about 2 minutes?

I did just try a new HMDI cable and unfortunately the same issue persists, I am gutted is an understatement.

Hello.

That doesn't look right at all. I assume you have the Series X correct? Just want to be sure as only the Series X/S support RT.

Those dots represent either an issue with the console overheating or a hardware problem. Only Watchdogs Legion uses hardware RT, Gears 5 X/S has added a feature called Screen Space Global Illumination, kind of like Ray Tracing, but in software and is less
heavy.

Do you have the console in location where it can breath? If multiple games have this issue then it looks like you may have a faulty console.

Id worry this is a GPU overheating issue. The casing does not have to be warm for this to happen.

Only other thing you could try would be another HDMI cable, though to me two games really pushing the GPU are watch dogs 3 and Gears 5 and they would likely show the issue more

Hi there,

I do indeed have the Series X yes.

I wouldn't suspect it is overheating as it doesn't feel that warm. Also this is something that happened as soon as I got the console, Watch Dogs was the first game I installed and noticed the issue. I then tried other games that were Enhanced for Series X such
as Forza Horizon 4, Apex Legends, Planet Coaster, Sea of Thieves and Grounded and these all display fine and look great.

The XSX is in a ventilated space so breathing shouldn't be an issue

Do you know if others have had this problem?

If it is faulty what do I need to do and would I get a replacement console when they collect the faulty one?

Hi,

Ray tracing isn't about resolution. Ray tracing is about lights, shadows and reflections. There are three main types of RT that you'll see on Series X/S. These are:

Ray traced global illumination.
Ray traced reflections
Ray traced shadows

It's unlikely you'll see all forms of RT in games as it is a very demanding graphics feature.

There hasn't been any videos of note released about the true ray tracing capabilities on Series X/S yet, but there are loads of videos about RT on gaming PCs if you're curious about what it will look like.

But regardless of what TV/Monitor you are using, if a game has Ray Tracing it will be available to you.
