You're probably going to need more than a terabyte in the long run anyway; same the fifty and just buy a external.

I've got under 4Gb left, so time to go shopping.

The best advice you have been given is purchase an External HD.

Get one with it's own power supply so it doesn't suck juice from your XBox One and a friend in IT recommends Western Digital as probably the best brand out there (I have the Seagate one myself).

Games are big and take up a lot of space. You're going to want at least a 2TB external HD and I'd recommend 3 - 4TB myself.

So your best option would probably be the 500MB one because it's cheaper and get a quality decent sized external HD.

Which to buy, the 500gb or 1TB?

There's some great deals for the 1TB console at the moment ( Here in the UK ) places like GAME are offering the console + a few games for around £349.99. I know www.simplygames.com recently had the 1TB console + any 2 games for £329.99.

What I'd ask though will you need the extra space?

Myself even though I've now got the 1TB console never got near filling up the 500GB console. Personally I never play more than 3-4 games at a time. I'm lucky that I have a good broadband speed and often just deleted old games , if I ever want to play them
again it was just a case of re-downloading them but I do know this can be a pain for some especially with slower broadband speeds.

  5. While I think the 1TB console may be the better deal overall, since you get more space and the newer controllers to boot, I do have concerns about the Kinect. Even though the 1TB console is better, I don't think it actually has any version that comes with
the Kinect sensor, which can also really add to your gaming and media experience in different ways. That's something that you can still get with the 500GB version, so IMO, that's still worth considering. Which to buy, the 500gb or 1TB? ;)

I'd go with the 1tb version. Bigger hard drive, a controller with a headphone jack and improved bumpers.

So Lofty has pretty much answered his own question here.

The games are large and take up a lot of space and unless you want to be constantly re-arranging your Hard Drive contents you should go for the best deal you can get on the console and aquire a decent sized external HD.

  10. Hello there, the storage question all comes down to what its going to be used for. If your son is a hardcore gamer then I recommend that you get the 1TB system. Because in the long run it will be worth it. You can put a lot of games on the 1TB system along
    with Apps.

Also the 360 backwards compatibly will work on the Xbox One in the fall. Currently only the Xbox Preview Members have early access, but come fall it will be released to the public. This ties in to your original question of getting a 500GB or 1TB system.
If you get the 1TB system, you can install the 360 games on the X1 and play them.

My personal recommendation, install the game you want to play on the X1 Hard Drive and then play it off the system instead of the rom drive. This puts less pressure on the rom and it will save the ware and tare on the rom drive in the long run.

the 360 backwards compatibly can best be described as turning the Xbox 360 Hardware System into Software System. The X1 system runs the 360 games in 360 Emulator software were you will feel like you are playing games on Xbox 360.

Sorry for the long answers, but I just wanted to provide as much details as possible

Is there a size limit on an external HDD that you can use? And does it matter if it's a portable or desktop HDD? Again, thank you for all of your advice.

Which to buy, the 500gb or 1TB?

Get the 500gb with an external drive as that will be cheaper in the long run. I would say 1tb is not enough, especially if he/she wants all their games installed at once.

I cant imagine a 14 year old has the patience to wait everytime they want to play a game tha isnt stored on their HDD. I know my 14 yo self wouldnt.
