Which to buy, the 500gb or 1TB?

My 14 year old son can't wait to get his hands on a new Xbox One console. He already has the 360 and loves, LOVES it.

We just saw the new deal being offered and just saw that a 1TB is also now being offered. I know it's only $50 more, but is it worth the $50 to go the 1TB way?

Also, does the backwards compatible mean he can play his 360 games on this unit (either the 500gb or 1TB) or how does that work?

    All responses are greatly appreciated.

    :)

I've run out of Hard Drive space..

I'm torn on whether or not I want to just go out and buy a 500gb external HDD to add to my XB1.

    Two things,

--if I were to buy one, which 500gb do you recommend?

--second, how are you dealing with lack of space by deleting and re-downloading your games?? Does it take long to re-download??

anyone else having this dilemma now with all these Nov. Releases coming out?

    Xbox1 500gb vs 1TB

I am going to buy one or the other. How many games can I store on the 500gb compared to 1Tb?

I've had the 500 GB since the One came out in November 2013 and it is almost full at this point. For $50 more, I'd say to go with the 1 TB. Keep in mind you can also add an external hard drive at any point to REALLY bump up the disc space.

As for backwards compatibility, right now it is in its infancy. There are only a handful of games for it, and it's only in beta testing. It is solely up to a specific games publisher to allow them to be a part of the compatibility. So, given that, it
is difficult (see: impossible) for us to tell if game A, B or C will be available in the future.

Thank you, both of you. So you can add an external hard drive to the unit? I was concerned because we got him the lower hard drive (forgot what it was) for the 360 and several games required us to purchase the internal hard drive for the unit.

Yes, you can add an external. Some of the games being released are upwards of 40-50 GB in size, so that 500 GB HDD can fill up pretty darn fast.

To be honest even a 1tb Xbox will need an external hard drive before you know it !!

I'm struggling for storage on my 500gb XB1, going for a 1TB is the best option.

Get the 500gb with an external drive as that will be cheaper in the long run. I would say 1tb is not enough, especially if he/she wants all their games installed at once.

I cant imagine a 14 year old has the patience to wait everytime they want to play a game tha isnt stored on their HDD. I know my 14 yo self wouldnt.

I would recommend the 1TB HDD Xbox One. It is a fantastic deal.

Yes the beackwards compatibility will allow you to play most Xbox 360 games in time. They are slowly building the Xbox 360 games library for Xbox One right now.

Is there a size limit on an external HDD that you can use? And does it matter if it's a portable or desktop HDD? Again, thank you for all of your advice.

It doesn't matter if it is portable or not. The only limitations I'm aware of are; It must be USB 3.0 and at least 256GB.
