I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble changing your Minecraft username. Unfortunately, as you mentioned, Mojang support is no longer able to assist with username changes due to the migration. However, you can sign in with your account here: My Account | Minecraft to do the changes.

I understand that you want to keep your old Minecraft username after the migration. According to Mojang, your username should not change after the migration

However, if you need to change your username after the migration, you can follow these steps

Log in to minecraft.net.

Click on the My Games section.

Click where it says Minecraft: Java Edition, here you will be presented with two options to change the skin or change the name.

Click Profile Name.

You can now change your Java edition profile name

When I logged into windows 10 using my Microsoft account it instantly used my Xbox username. It there any way I can make my Minecraft account different than my Xbox username? This would be extremely helpful, especially because my Minecraft username
is 13 letters, and Xbox usernames can only be 12 letters!

I'm sorry to inform you that if you changed your Minecraft Java Edition username, you won't be able to change it again until 30 days have passed, as it is the time period established by Mojang for each change.

However, there's no need to worry since nobody can take your previous username during this period, as your previous username is saved for 37 days, as stated on the same website.
