whenever i try to change my gamertag it asks me to pay even though i never changed it before?

I understand the system is asking you to pay for the gamertag change. As you say, everyone gets a free change the first time. (Actually, I have my free change available)

However, I'm afraid to say that if the system is asking you to pay for this change, this means you already used the free change.

Additionally, I would like to let you know that no one at Microsoft can bypass this requirement for you, or issue a new free change.

It is only for New Accounts that are given random gamertags rather than user picked

I want to change my gamertag so I am no longer stuck with my old one, and supposedly its free the first time, and yet it still says I have to pay. is there any way I can change it without having to pay a stupid fee made for "security reasons" (face it Microsoft, its for money. add a cooldown.)

You only get the free name change if you didnt choose your gamertag yourself when creating your account and if you were given a randomly generated gamertag.

The gamertag you have right now isnt a randomly generated one and would be one that you would have chosen. That would have counted as your one free gamertag change.

Any further changes would have the gamertag change fee.

I never changed my gamertag. My gamertag displays my complete name when I play online. I have been trying to change it, but microsoft want 10 bucks for it! Even though it states that you can change it atleast ones for free! This is a security issue for me.
Can someone help me change my gamertag not to display my full name without getting charged for it? Thanks!

Okay so you're telling me that even though I was hacked and they changed my gamer tag. I still have to pay to change it back?????? Because they used the free gamertag change.
