When will my Closed account’s Xbox Gamer Tag be available

So I had two Microsoft Accounts, one is an active one Ive used for years and the other was one I made to claim an Xbox Gamer Tag. I recently decided I finally wanted to use the desired gamer tag so i deleted and closed that account to free up and make the
gamer tag available again for me to then buy and change my current active accounts name. However the closed account has a 60 day period before its completely deleted. My question is after the 60 day period will the xbox gamer tag associated with that microsoft
account become available again?

So, how many of you are 10 year Xbox Live gamers?

I started with the xboxlive beta with the headset and MotoGP disk, but I currently have a new different gamer tag due to my associated Hotmail account going inactive, due to not logging into email, and thus preventing me from renewing the live account. I had to create a new account while I went through the steps of recovery for the Hotmail address. Once recovered, I simply stayed with my new gamer tag... Now associated with the old Hotmail account. :-(

Sorry but gamertags aren't closed nor do they expire.

A bunch of inactive gamertags were made available when live for the original xbox was closed down so it may happen again when live for the 360 is eventually shut down but after what happened with people snapping up tags & selling them last time it may not.

After the 60 day waiting period the Microsoft Account will be permanently closed. The Microsoft Account closure doesn't promise that the GamerTag will be available after the 60 day waiting period.

Thank you for the reply. Thats a shame to hear as i was hoping to then claim back the name after the 60 days but on my more active account that i use. I guess i’ll just have to wait and hope its available soon after.

 

To be sure to get the gamertag on the account that you want you would first have to reopen the account that has the gamertag that you want change the gamertag on that account (yes it will cost you money to do that) That will then free up that gamertag
immediately that you will then be able to go onto the other account and change the gamertag to the one that you just freed up (again it will more then likely cost you money to change that gamertag also).
