When is the patented disc drive going to release for the Series S console?

Unless Microsoft makes an announcement, no one here would have any information.

The Series S is a decent upgrade on a One S, with almost 3x the graphics performance, a much better CPU, and WAY faster storage. Obviously, there are potential downsides, e.g. no optical drive, if you have disc-based games or Blu-Ray movies you want to play.

The Series X has over 8.5x the graphics performance of the One S, a much better CPU, WAY faster storage, and it still has an optical drive, so right now that's the best Xbox has to offer.

There's bound to be more consoles released in the future, cos MS chose the name "Series" to denote that these are the first in a series of consoles, but with the current Series consoles only being around 18 months old, I don't think we'll hear anything announced soon.

As for redesigns, like "slim" models, I'd be surprised if we hear anything about those soon either. The Series S is already small, and the Series X, despite being a fairly large size, has its internals packed in tightly/efficiently, so it's hard to see how they could make it smaller really. Maybe they will announce a Series X with no disc drive. Maybe they will announce an external optical drive add-on for the Series S (they supposedly filed a patent related to that). But again, nothing has been announced.

You have names mixed up. There are no consoles named the Xbox One Series S or Xbox One Series X.

The Xbox One/One S/One X all have a disc drive.

The Xbox One S All Digital Edition does not have a disc drive.

The Xbox Series X has a disc drive.

The Xbox Series S does not have a disc drive.

All the consoles can play backward compatible games. The Series S and One S all digital edition can only play games digitally downloaded.

series x has disc drive and the series s does not

smart delivery is so it downloads the content for the specific console

hence why the game case has series x and xbox one advertised on it. the disc can be used in series x and xbox one consoles, the series s does not have a drive therefore requires digital purchase.

The disc has to be in the drive in order to play them. Since the Series S doesn't have a disc drive, you won't be able to play the physical discs on that console.
