When I try to make a group chat with my friends it says group chat won't connect etc so...

We understand that you are trying to establish group chat with friends and is unable to because you are getting an error message that says "cannot connect". Let us check on this together and sort this out. Rest assured, we will do anything in our capability to assist you with your concern.

This feature may not work if the online safety and privacy settings of your account is not properly configured or there are restrictions with the account especially if manage by organizer under Xbox family group.

To manage online safety and privacy settings:

1. Sign in to your Microsoft account at Xbox.com.
   
2. Select your gamertag, and then select the More actions button (…).
   
3. Select Xbox settings, and then select Privacy & online safety.
   
   Note Because you’re accessing sensitive info, you may have to enter your password or PIN.
   
4. Select either the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows 10 devices Online Safety tab or the Privacy tab.
   
5. Under privacy, you should check the settings
   
   
   
   
   
6. Review the current settings and update any that you want to change, and then select Submit to save the changes.
   
   Note You must select Submit at the bottom of the page before leaving or switching to another tab. If you don't submit the changes before you move to the other tab, your changes won't be saved.
   
7. Under Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows 10 devices Online Safety tab, check the settings.
   
   
   
   
   

If the account is under Xbox Family group, an organizer in an Xbox family group can manage settings for members who are in the family group. Kids can only see (and not manage) their own settings. To manage a member's online safety and privacy settings under Xbox family group:

1. Sign in to your Microsoft account at Xbox.com.
   
2. Select your gamertag, and then select the More actions button (…).
   
3. Select Xbox settings, and then select Privacy & online safety.
   
   Note Because you’re accessing sensitive info, you may have to enter your password or PIN.
   
4. Select the gamertag for the account that you want to manage.
   
5. Select either the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows 10 devices Online Safety tab or the Privacy tab.
   
6. Review the current settings and update any that you want to change, and then select Submit to save the changes.
   
   Note You must select Submit at the bottom of the page before leaving or switching to another tab. If you don't submit the changes before you move to the other tab, your changes won't be saved.
   
7. Have the member sign in and then sign out of their account on the console to make sure the changes take effect.

If still cannot establish party chat, you may need to check your NAT type (Network Address Translation). Your NAT type determines whether you can successfully use multiplayer gaming or party chat.

• Open NAT: You're able to play and host multiplayer games with people who have any NAT type on their network.
  
• Moderate NAT: You might not be able to play multiplayer games with some people, and normally you won't be chosen as the host of a match.
  
• Strict NAT: You're only able to play multiplayer games with people who have an OPEN NAT type. You can't be chosen as the host of a match.
  
• Unavailable NAT: If NAT is unavailable, you’ll be unable to use party chat or connect to multiplayer games for some Xbox titles.
  

To fix this problem, we’ll first want to check your current NAT type. To do this:

1. Press the Xbox button  to open the guide.
   
2. Select Profile & system > Settings > General > Network settings.
   
3. Under Current Network Status, the NAT Type field displays your current NAT type.
   

You need your NAT type to be Open to resolve this issue.

There's about 3-6 people in the group chat at all times.

I forgot to say that this problem only occurs when my friend is in the group chat via Xbox one, the problem doesnt occur when he is on the PC xbox app

Check the status of the Xbox Live service. If you see alerts, wait until the service is up and running and try again.
If you are unable to hear the person you are trying to chat with after joining their group, try these tips:
Make sure your privacy settings allow you to communicate with everyone. Press the Xbox  button to open the panel and select Profile and system> Settings> Account> Privacy and security> Xbox Live privacy. Select View details and customize> Communication and multiplayer, then make your changes.
Mute or unblock the person you're trying to chat with. Press the Xbox  button to open the panel, then select Groups and chats. Select the group to expand the group list, choose the person you want to hear again and select Mute.

I don't think that Phone users are allowed to make/join parties that why Microsoft implemented party chat where iPhone user can send they friend a party chat so that their friend can join through the message. to be able to use party chat you need to have
a chat group with all your friends in it and send a party chat.
