My screen says in description that it can run 1440p at 120fps for console gaming(AOC 1440p 155hz adaptive sync) but when i try to set my resolution to 1440p it wont let me use 120hz only 60hz and it will only let me run 120hz at 1080p

    :)

When i set my refresh rate to 120hz it says i wont be able to use 1440p when my screen says it supports 120hz at 1440p for console gaming

Hi Sondre, my name is Rodrigo. I'm an Independent Advisor and a member of the Microsoft community and I'd love to assist you today.

I am sorry to hear that.

Please, read this paragraph from a post by Obsessive Power:

"When you connect your console to a monitor or TV it reads a chip on your display that tells it what it is capable of. This is called E-EDID and stands for Enhanced Extended Display Identification Data. This tells the Xbox what the display can 'officially' do display-wise in regards to resolution, timings, HDR, etc.

At the moment, Xbox consoles only accept timings from the official VESA standard (Video Electronics Standards Association). These official timings are reported to the console, but many monitors also have non-standard timings.

For example, your monitor's maximum refresh is 119.88 which is not the VESA standard, it's a unique refresh for that display. In other words, because it's not in the VESA standard that Microsoft has put down for displays, you won't be able to select 120Hz on your monitor. Plug your PC into that monitor and it will be able to do 120Hz at 1440P all day because your PC can use the preferred timings in the E-EDID template of your monitor, it's not stuck with VESA timings."

This migh be the reason your monitor is not supporting it.

Series X Audio Cutting Out / Volume Fluctuating with Speakers

So I have basically just been living with this problem, but today I changed my settings .... I have a monitor so my output is 1440p, I have this issue when I have my refresh rate of my Xbox set to 120hz.... I changed my rate to 60Hz and there doesn't seem to be any audio dropping anymore.

So basically Xbox isn't able to handle 1440p and 120hz.... I'd rather not leave it at 60 but for now I guess I have to, is there any other settings I could tweak to make this work?

My Xbox game clips are lagging

I was somehow able to fix the lag by setting my refresh rate to 120hz (vs 60) and keeping my display resolution at 1440p and the capture resolution at 1080p. Not sure how but my clips have been perfect since!!

120 hz not recognized on 144hz monitor

    Hi,

You will need to go to your Xbox Settings > Display & Sound > Video Output > Video fidelity & overscan > Where it says Display 'Overrides' change it to 'HDMI'. Now press the B button once to go back to the previous screen and where it says 'Display' you will
see drop down boxes for 'Resolution' and 'Refresh rate'. Change the Resolution to 1440p. Under 'Refresh rate' you will be able to select 120hz.

    Happy Gaming!

2k with 120hz XBOX ONE X not working with HP X27i

Yes I'm there and the Game is for 2k. So that is not the problem.

My Xbox One X will not accepted the Setting "1440p with 120hz" with my HP X27i Monitor. Do you now that issue ?
With a lot of monitors, the lower the resolution, the higher the refresh rate you can have.

Near as I can tell, that monitor has a native refresh rate at 1440p of 60Hz (that is what it defaults to)...it then uses Variable refresh rate to bump it up higher. As noted above, the EDID fails as the Xbox needs a 120Hz setting to run at 120Hz. The monitor will definitely do 120Hz via HDMI but only on a PC/Laptop it seems.

I can't confirm it but I suspect that the monitor's native RR for 1080p is 120Hz.

This has been an issue for quite a few HP models, both whilst using the One X and also whilst using the newer Series X/S's
