When I plug my headphones into my controller my system turns off. What am I doing wrong?

May i ask the type of headset? Sometimes depending on the functionality of it such as older iphone headset have a different remote settings then others which can cause the malfunction but again it also depends on controller model as well

Start with the usuals.

-Plug controller in and confirm it is registering correctly. You may have to resync.

-make sure your headset is compatible with tour model controller

(Older models do have trouble misfireing connection aka compatability issue

Sometimes hardwire from controller to xbox is necessary

If it were a built-in headphone jack, then it would turn off when the controller itself was turned off, right? It connects when I plug in my headset.
