When gaming, my CPU usage drops heavily. Why is this?

So about two weeks ago, I was playing Flight Simulator 2024 and instantly my game started to drop from 60 or so FPS all the way down to 1-5 FPS. The audio would also lag heavily across my whole device, so not just limited to the game. This would happen for 5 or so seconds before returning to normal. Then, it would happen again and would not stop happening. I assumed it was just the game so I hopped on MSFS 2020, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, and a few other games that can run with my specs and they all did the same. I even tried a random decade old game which did the same. I opened up task manager to see what the deal was and I saw my CPU usage go from 90% or so all the way down to 12% and then back up. I notice this mainly happens with Xbox Game Pass Games and occasionally with games outside of it. Something to keep in mind is I am using an Asus Rog Zephyrus G14 Laptop. My specs are:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900HS with Radeon Graphics 3.30 GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU (6 GB VRAM)
    RAM: 16 GB
Temps for higher games: 90 C

Everything that requires updating, I have updated. I have tried a clean boot of windows and the problems still occurred. My brother has the same laptop, runs the same temps, and this problem does not occur for him. I've owned the laptop since 2022 and this has never happened. I've also tried reinstalling NVIDIA drivers and also installing an older version of them which did nothing. The graphics I run are usually low to medium for high-end games and high for every other.

If there are any solutions that can be given, I would greatly appreciate it. If more information needs to be given, just ask and I will reply with it. I will also attach a link to my video of the issue occurring. This issue can be seen happening with Call of Duty.

Why does my cpu usage spike and my gpu usage drop during gaming?

    Hello Villas,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing performance issues while gaming. There are several possible causes for this problem, such as overheating, outdated drivers, background processes, power settings, etc.

Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue:

    - Check the temperature of your CPU and GPU using a monitoring software like HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner. If they are too high, you may need to improve your cooling system or lower your overclock settings if you have any.

    - Update your drivers for your CPU and GPU using the official websites of Intel and NVIDIA. Avoid using third-party software that may install unwanted or incompatible drivers.

    - Close any unnecessary programs or services that may be running in the background and consuming CPU resources. You can use Task Manager to see which processes are using the most CPU and end them if they are not essential.

    - Adjust your power settings to High Performance mode in Windows Settings > System > Power & Sleep > Additional Power Settings. This will ensure that your CPU and GPU are not throttled by power saving features.

    - Try lowering the resolution or graphics settings of your games to reduce the load on your GPU and CPU. You can also use NVIDIA Control Panel to optimize your games for performance.

I hope this helps! If you’re still having trouble, please let me know we will do our best to help you resolve this issue as soon as possible.

    Sincerely,

    Xbox Wireless Headset Distorted Sound

Not using any sound enhancing thing.

Waiting on my 5800x to check if it's because of sometimes high CPU usage. Because I usually get distortion when CPU usage is high on Halo.

    And maybe it's just coincidence.

Is My CPU Bottlenecking My RTX 3060 in Modern Games?

Depends what you mean by dropping frames. If you're already on a high FPS, it could be a CPU heavy area of the game. So instead of 100fps, you'll get less, but not 100% usage on your GPU as it's CPU related slow down.

Haven't got Elden Ring, but I know Cyberpunk has CPU heavy areas.

Minecraft Java not launching (any more)

Hello, and welcome to the Xbox Community! I'd be happy to help you today.

When you see Java in Task Manager, does the CPU or memory usage spike for a few seconds and then drop, or does it stay low the whole time?
