When do I get the preview updates after enabling them?

If you've been accepted into the preview program, and your console is ready for a preview update, you'll likely get it when the next preview update is rolled out. Preview Program members do not get a warning on when they'll get new updates, and we

I always do a reboot when this happens which isn't often but I always do one after an update.

Always manually quit what ever you are doing when you have finished using them.

We are having problems right now in the preview program with lag with apps, hopefully they get it sorted soon when its running properly you cant beat it.

Updates are optional when they first go out, but after some time, for preview this is typically 24 hours or so, they become 'mandatory' and this is when you will get removed from whatever you are doing at the time. Making updates mandatory makes sure that
preview members are quickly all on the same build so they are not giving feedback on old versions of the OS, while the original optional window gives you some flexibility in when you apply it.

The best workaround would be to check for available updates when you start up your console. If you do this once per day, you should see available updates and can apply them before they become mandatory and interrupt your play session.

I don't believe I have instant on enabled but I do have background updates enabled for sure. Do you see my replies because I can update you in the morning when I get to doing all this stuff.

I only get an update every few months it seems and you don’t have to do them then and there. You can do them later. It sounds like you’re in the preview program.
