    When are we getting the 21:9 update on Xbox One S/X


    Since we know 21:9 will be available on the new generation consoles will we finally get the update to use our monitors as intended? The console's hardware is very capable of providing UW signal. Example: the NBA 2k games are made for consoles and ported
    to PC and they have native ultrawide support so it's not that the games aren't supported it's just Microsoft refusing us that bare functionality.

    Who knows?

    This is largely a community forum and you're unlikely to get an official answer from here.

    But never say never. Even a year after Xbox One released MS made additional features to the 360 O.S to bring it line with the new console such as external drive support, so it could still get ultra-wide support.

    Heres hoping that the Series X has support for 21:9 3440x1440 @ 120hz which I believe could easily handle it.
    Series X will have HDMI 2.1 which has a bandwidth of 48 Gbps. By contrast, HDMI 2.0 is 16 Gbps. But you'll need an HDMI 2.1 TV/Monitor of course.

    21:9 3440x1440 is less pixels than 16:9 3840 x 2160 which is "supported" by Xbox One S.

    I agree with Xbox Ambassador Obsessive Power in that we should never say never, however going 21:9 introduces extra pixels. Whilst the One X could cope, the One S would likely struggle.

    I got a chance to experience 21:9 3440x1440 gaming on a PC and was hooked, so would love to see it on consoles, but more pixels means more strain on the current consoles. Heres hoping that the Series X has support for 21:9 3440x1440 @ 120hz which I believe
    could easily handle it.

    Yeah, HDMI 2.1 was a good choice but I don’t think there are any monitors with a HDMI 2.1 port yet, plenty of 8k TV’s now have the port but still a bit on the pricey side.

    The Series X has the power and means to support the format, heres hoping it is a feature added to the console by MS and adopted by developers and publishers.
