When a try renting a movie it says "you cannot make purchases on this account"

This started happening only 2 weeks ago literally right after I bought the new hobbit movie. I've tried clearing my cache and checking my settings but nothing works.

Why can't I make purchases with my Microsoft/Xbox live account?

I want to rent some movies on XBOX Video but I get an error message saying "you cannot make purchases with this account.". I have made purchases of movies and games before, and still have sufficient funds on my account. Please help this has been happening
for over a month.

Please tell me you're joking when you said "Underworld" is one of the best movies in a while??? I saw it in the theaters, that movie was HORRIBLE! And Yes I've seen all the others before it.

This sounds like a billing problem. You will likely have to give support a call at 800-4MY-XBOX for the US and Canada. You can also try the Billing link under the support tab.

If you're planning on renting movies through Xbox Video, here is the explanation from the Xbox Support FAQ on how movie rentals work:

Renting movies

When you rent a movie through Xbox Video, it's available to you for 14 days. This 14-day countdown starts when you make the purchase. When you start playing the movie, another clock starts ticking: you have a 24-hour period of time during which you can watch
the movie as many times as you want.

Let's say you rent a movie at 3:00 P.M. on May 1. If you start watching the movie at 8:00 P.M. on May 5, your rental period expires at 8:00 P.M. on May 6.

Note Unlike a movie that you buy, a movie that you rent must be viewed on the device it was rented for (Xbox 360, computer, Windows Phone 7.

All of the above! Just rented the movie and cannot watch it. I either have to purchase it or it says to rent it again at xBox store.

License for this video has expired. To play it, rent it again at the xBox Video Store.
