What’s the best way to connect my series X to my monitor that doesn’t have HDMI?

I recently purchased a Samsung G85SB gaming monitor. Only after being delivered did I realize it doesn’t have an HDMI port only mini DP, a micro hdmi and a type c input. I could buy adapters to use the micro DP to DP that came with the monitor but after days of looking they’re either Micro DP to hdmi or if they are the other way around it drops from 4k and 120hz. Looking through forums and watching videos turns up nothing besides this has been an issue since release because nothing new has been posted in YEARS’ Has anyone been able to find an adapter or a cord that I could use to solve this issue? Thanks in advance

    :)

    Hi there,

I've been looking for adapters couple years back, but you somehow always seem to loose certain features, so at that time I decided to replace the monitor (was an older one). For DP ports conversion is usually needed and my assumption is that that causes to loose certain features or performance

Maybe the micro HDMI could be an option, since then my assumption is no conversion is needed, but it may depend on the monitor in what it does or does not support via the micro HDMI port.

White Flickers while watching movies/streaming? 4k UHD 60hz monitor no HDR

I had the same / similar issue with my old 4K 60hz none HDR / HDMI 2.0 monitor when watching movies and some times in games with the Series X,

As soon as i upgraded my monitor to a 4K 144hz monitor that has HDR / HDMI 2.1 ports, i no longer had this problem,

I'm not sure what the problem is, but my guess is that the HDMI 2.1 port on Series X doesn't play well with HDMI 2.0 port of monitors, or it's the Series X trying to force HDR on, even if the monitor does not have / support HDR and the HDR in Series X menu's is turned off.

    1440p 120hz on xbox series x

Can't say for sure. This is an older HDMI 2.0 monitor. While most work, some of these displays limit the HDMI refresh rate to 100Hz, which would make 120Hz impossible.

You likely won't find this information any many reviews as Display Port is the common way to connect these displays to the main system they were designed for, PCs. Connecting gaming monitors to consoles in a recent thing, and not all monitors work well with Series X over HDMI. Just because the specs say 165Hz, doesn't mean you're guaranteed to get 120Hz over HDMI.

These monitors however, are all compatible with Xbox Series X|S https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/best/xbox-series-x

Xbox one x not displaying 1440/120

I don't have enough info to confirm if the Series X will be able to run 144hz on a monitor such as the one you have purchased but feel fairly confident that 120hz will be possible since it will be using HDMI 2.1

From what i've read 'HDMI to displayport' adapters are usually limited to 60hz at this point in time as most displays are using HDMI 2.0 so it wouldn't really be worth bothering with as you would still be running 60hz at 1440p as the Xbox One X uses
HDMI 2.0 which will only allow 60hz maximum for 4K or 1440p (1080p/120hz yes, but not 1440p/120hz). Even if your monitor uses HDMI 2.1 it still has to connect to HDMI 2.0 on the console so 120hz would not be possible at 1440p.

Since HDMI 2.0 is what current gen uses 60hz is the optimum setting for 4K and all games are
capped at 30-60fps on the console (also due to the fact that most console users will be connecting to TVs and 60hz is pretty much what most HD/4K TVs are capable of). This should change with the Series X which will have HDMI 2.1 (capable of 120hz)
but seems unlikely that 144hz will be possible on the console. I think the best you could expect is to be able to get 4K/120hz with HDMI 2.1 on the Series X although it is said that it will support up to 8K on TVs/Monitors that are capable.

My recommendation would be to get a monitor that's 4K HDR 120hz as this should be able to get the best of current gen (1440/60hz) and Series X (120hz) without paying extra for 144hz which, as stated in my last reply, would only be useful for Gaming PCs and
    not consoles.

Hope this info helps you decide which monitor to go with and has helped in any way to make things a little clearer in regards to why the settings may be working the way they are.

    Stay safe and Happy Gaming!
