Not true.The xbox one s can be used in a vertical position.Microsoft sell the stand if you want it vertical.

Sounds like the op has a faulty disc drive & as already mentioned,it would be best to take it back to where it was bought & get a replacement as it's a brand new console.

I would recommend doing what IseStorm Stated above. Take it back to the retailer and get a replacement for it.

It could be that your disc drive is not properly aligned or could be bent. It could be a number of things.

The all-digital console will only play digital versions of games; it has no disc drive. So you would need to buy a new Xbox One S to replace the current one if your games are disc-based.

I would suggest doing what Light759 suggested and check the bottom of the disc for damage. If the disc is damaged you can go through the disc replacement program to get the disc replaced. See the link below for more info.
