What should I do when my Xbox one won't turn on and when is dose all I see is a grey screen?

thats not the proble. it still forces my xbox off like the other one applying the update. all i want to know is what do i do for when it turns off ? or can you describe what i should do while it updates ? as in what should i do when it turns off than wait for it ? because it wont turn back on when it does turn off ?

I can't do a factory reset because I can't get past the screen as described above. Nothing will get me away from seeing the controller on the screen. I know my controller works (on another xbox) and when I turn it on, it will turn on the console but won't
work.

SmartGlass also refuses to connect when I'm stuck in this grey endlessly loading dashboard screen.

This problem is consistent. Everyday when I turn my Xbox on for the first time this happens.

Reset the console display settings

If the display problem is still not resolved, reset the display settings of your console. Here's how:

1. Remove any discs from the disc tray.
2. Turn off the console.
3. Turn on the console.
   Note If you are using an Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, turn on the console by using the Guide button on the controller. Make sure that you use the player 1 controller when you do this. The player 1 controller will have the upper-left light illuminated.
   
4. As the console starts, on the controller, press and hold Y while pulling the right trigger. The display settings are reset to the default settings, and then the console automatically restarts.
