I recently had a problem with a controller. It kept losing connection with the console, I put in new batteries but the problem persisted.

I then bought a new controller but that kept losing connection, I then thought I was too far away from the console but even only being 1-2 feet away the controller would be good for a few seconds then disconnect.

Any one have any ideas or will I need to invest in a new Xbox?

The wireless range is ~20 feet. Which Xbox do you have?

Is it plugged into a surge protector/extension cord? If so, try plugging it directly into the wall. This can help prevent interference.

Most wireless devices (Xbox controllers, Bluetooth, wireless routers, Wireless headsets, PS3/4 controllers, etc) run at the 2.4 GHz range. Microwaves do as well. There is always the chance to have interference from the devices and that seems to be exactly
what is happening. Try relocating the devices and that may help some, but there is no guarantee.

There are no actual methods of extending the wireless range of the controller. The hardware is built-in and remains constant.

You can, however, improve the range by removing all physical obstructions, minimizing wireless interference from other devices, and ensuring that the controller is in direct line-of-sight to the console.

Sounds like your just out of range for the controller. The controllers do not use RF they use a proprietary wifi. I believe the rang is about 20ft. You may try updating the controller firmware, and move anything like a wireless access point away from the
console or anything in the 2.4ghz range.
