What is MS cut per DLC sold on Xbox live?

Hi everyone. I am a part time game developer and I am in talks with a large IP holder that is considering letting me have their hard drives from previous games to make them a new one. Before they want to give me these hard drive of uncooked assets they want
to know the cost of each marketplace cut before they proceed since the game is planned on being free to play but with hundreds of map packs. How much does MS take per $10 dlc pack sold?

Can anyone tell me? and if not publicly can someone DM me the answer?

:)

@Bearded, it may get a cut from games sold on it's Games on Demand section, but it doesn't receive squat from a game that is sold in Walmart.

MS does receive a console licensing fee for each game sold (~12 USD per game sold)

Any one know if there are new maps soon

If this is true then what about the people that bought the ELITE membership and (I believe) we were promised one DLC per month for 9 months? I could be wrong but that's the way I was sold on it along with saving about $20. So essentially we should be getting
9 DLC maps per month.

Was this not true?

Viral outbreak of bad publicity fatal for Microsoft?
hobb I don't know and I doubt you know the full extent of the contract(s) between devs and MS. that said we also don't know how the pricing (that is licensing) will go forward with the Xbox 3. They very well could go to a mobile style system (which is how
W8 is done in terms of licensing for apps for the W8 store) and drop the price of patching but instead require a cut of all content sold on the marketplace (for XBL) itself.
They actually do take a cut of all content sales on XBL and DLC sales already as hosting costs. If you check the prices of the original Left 4 Dead DLC it's about 540 Microsoft points. Valve released at that price because it covers the hosting costs being
charged by Microsoft which include their normal cut of content sales.

On XBLIG in the old days the cut could be as high as 66%. though about two years ago they dropped it to 33% due to that being what steam apparently takes and what most Android / IOS take.
do I agree 100% with the charging of patching a game? No. But under their current payment system (read: the system they had when they came over from Xbox 1 to Xbox 2) its all they have as no one could for see content (that is DLC and patching) becoming what
it is today for consoles as nothing of the sort had been tried before. There had to be someway to charge for the usage of bandwidth and so they (MS) did what had been done before which was to charge per patch. It's not MS being evil or something it was what
used to be the most common practice as funds had to be generated to pay for the bandwidth being used. Now that MS has the W8 Store and signs point toward heavy integration between it and the next Xbox (there's already some between W8 and WP8 and more is already
been announced to be coming with the W8.1 update and the WP8 Blue update).

I won't call MS out on how they currently charge per patch as I understand why it is the way it is. Now if they don't change it going forward, I almost certainly will as now the foundations of how content is distributed is completely different than it was 8
years ago.
As yet Ms haven't come out to say they're changing this though. The other two have done. Also their system which they claim to be a service worth $40k to developers (more than Sony's costs) has actually proved time and again that its not doing anything different
to Sony yet is charging more.

GTA V generates around $800 million in 24 hours
That is incorrect though, Bluntman. That would assume that all 800 million goes directly to Rockstar. Retailers get a cut of the money, MS/Sony gets a cut of that money, shipping costs money, designing the cases the game gets shipped in, etc etc. I'd
guesstimate that Rockstar gets 40% of a $60 video game purchase after all is said and done.
Shipping costs, and cases would all be part of the budget, as would fees to MS and Sony for licensing. Retailers would still get a cut, that is true, but usually retail cuts are at max 20 percent and that is per unit sold, since the retailers have already
"purchased" the items. SO Rockstar is still looking at over $400 million directly to their bank accounts.
