What happened to my account?

Hi all,

First time poster here.

I have an Xbox live account that I've had for at least 15 years or so now. Never had an issue with it until now.

I went to play some Xbox this evening and my Xbox took forever to boot up, which was the first red flag. When it did eventually boot up, I was greeted with a sign-in screen and it requested my credentials. So, I did as asked and signed in no problem, but when I got to the home screen, I was greeted with a Gamertag and profile that wasn't anything remotely to do with me or my credentials. I had never heard or seen the Gamertag on my Xbox at all in the previous days gaming.

Anyway, I tried again and was met with the same issue, so I thought maybe I got the email wrong and used my (now defunct) older email address that was originally used to create the Xbox live account. I got the password correct first try, but it then said the account was blocked because I tried to enter a password too many times??

SUPER CONFUSED, I then tried an account recovery....I entered every tiny detail of the profile, all my banking credentials (I have game pass etc), literally every detail I could think of....and as I'm sure you've guessed, they denied my application to recover the account.

What's even odder, is my outlook doesn't have any trace of Xbox being registered to this email address, even though it absolutely was because I remember migrating all my things over when my previous email went dead.

Can someone please help? I just wanted to chill for an hour or so this evening and play some games, where as now I've spent 3+ hours trying to get help, but all I can find is automated bots giving me guides on completely irrelevant stuff.

I just want my profile back

What sounds like happened is the email you thought was associated with TheElf555 is not the email you signed in with. and when you went to xbox.com and signed in with that particular email it created a new xbox profile for that email.

The best way to figure out what email is associated the theelf account is to contact xbox support by going to support.xbox.com/contact-us and provide them that gamertag and if they can verify the ownership of that account they can provide you with the email
associated with it.

yeah, i changed my password as soon as i got back home, but it's just strange, my old password was near impossible for anyone to have figured it out, it was more than 35 characters long. and yeah....i'm sure Xbox Support won't be a help to me, they never
have been in the past. i guess it's my only option though. :/

Your gamertag is the same as your profile so you will need to go onto your Xbox Guide menu and scroll down to Recover Gamertag, then follow the onscreen instructions. Before doing this I highly suggest you delete your profile from your hard drive so there
are no problems like corruption.

Hello, your "profile" is your "gamertag" if it was an online profile. If you had a different gamertag previously, from the looks of your post I'm guessing it was "Roguemant". You will need to download your profile using the e-mail and password associated
with that account. If you can't remember what that e-mail address is you will need to contact phone support and speak with them about this.

Each gamertag can only have one e-mail attached to it, so you would need to use the e-mail associated with the gamertag "Roguemant" to be able to download that "profile" to your XBOX 360 console. If you have access to your previous XBOX still and that that
account is still accessible on that console you will be able to view what e-mail is on that gamertag by going to the XBOX 360 Dashboard > Settings > Account > Manage > Windows Live ID. The e-mail should be listed there, login with that e-mail.
