    What happened to 5.1 sound on HD Movie Rentals?


    G'day

    I'm just wondering what happened to the 5.1 Dolby Digital sourround sound for movies have gone? Or is it just me?

    I've rented two bloody good movies from the store in the last two weeks, Need For Speed and A Million Ways To Die In The West.


    On both occasions, the download has been about 5 GB (about half what it normally should be) and only playing PCM to the receiver. I have purchased Robocop inadvertently (apparently pressing B at the confirm purchase screen means A), and it works in 5.1.

    Any ideas?

    Just seems pointless having a bad *** surround sound for no point whatsoever.

    Xbox Video - How to know quality sound (stereo - DD - DTS) before paying for a movie.

    I am kind of disappointed as I rented a movie in HD today and what a surprise the sound was on stereo!!!! When it all started on xbox 360 I remember that the movie bios informed about the sound.

    I mean I would not rent a movie on HD just for quality of image, I also expect, al lleast, good 5.1 sound. I see that there are some movies in 5.1 and others that are not, the main problem is that you cannot tell until you have rented, or worse, bought the
    movie.

    Is there a way to know it before paying? Because in case of stereo sound I would rather rent the movie on SD.

    Xbox Video (Movies on Demand) Not 5.1 Anymore

    Better late than never.. .but .. I hired out the movie Left Behind (nicholas cage 2014), the 1080P HD download was about 6Gb, I waited until it had downloaded completely, navigating from startup to the "my movies" section is Dolby Digital 5.1 on the receiver,
    as soon as I press play on the movie, it switched over to PCM2.0, and was yet again, not in surround sound. Your more than welcome to give it a shot too, but if your downloading from a server located outside Australia, chances are what you and I get for our
    money will be different.

    Movie Argo won't play, rented as a download. Error code: c00d36c4

    Downloaded Argo in HD for Rental. Will not play when selected, I get a Preview, won't play the movie. Waste of $$$!

    I notice the only time I have sound issues is when I'm watching tv and the show or movie is not in 5.1 and just DD, I only get stereo. When that happens I just switch my receiver to Matrix and it outputs 5.1 surround. Might not be the best, but works for
    now.

    Hey there Bloke! I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with this movie. Are you streaming the movie, or did you download it? If download, can you delete the file, clear your system cache, and then try downloading again? Let me know if that helps, thanks!

    Surround Sound issues using XBOX ONE (games work in 5.1, apps only in stereo)

    HD is picture quality and does not have anything to do with the sound and if it is in 5.1 it will tell you on the packaging unless bootleg. Also, "old fashioned Blu-Ray" in comparison to an HD movie?

    And Surround sound can be easily processed...and also set as a preference on audio systems.

    It's hard to decipher the issue when you clearly might as well call it a "thing-a-ma-jig". Learn your product before bantering on and NO. I'm not sorry but you really irritate me

    Movie titles are as follows.

    The Water Diviner -- Trailer 2.0 Movie 2.0

    Stonehearst Asylum - Trailer 5.1 Movie 2.0

    Horns -- Trailer 5.1 Movie 2.0

    Hector And the Search for Happiness -- Trailer 5.1 Movie 2.0

    Good People -- Trailer 5.1Movie 2.0

    Lets Be Cops -- Trailer 5.1 Movie 2.0

    I could sit here and run a list of pretty much every movie made available for rent in the last 6 to 12 months, you can easily tell by the download size, 1080P movies in 5.1 Surround sound are about 9 - 12 GigaBytes, 1080P movies without surround sound (2.0
    Stereo) are around 4-6GB.

    This issue has been raised previously on these forums, a solution had been promised, but it is evident that the issue has been ignored. Please do not let this request for correcting this issue fall of deaf ears again.
