Connecting an Xbox console to a laptop to use it as a monitor won't work because the HDMI ports on the vast majority of laptops are video output ports and not input ports like those used by standalone TVs or monitors. Nevertheless, it's advisable to check the laptop's manual to confirm the type of HDMI ports it has.

I've tried hooking up my Xbox 360 Slim and my Xbox 1 console to my HP Pavilion dv6. It... hello... has an HDMI port, but the reason why my PC isn't picking it up is because others on here say something like it's the wrong kind of HDMI that are built on HP

My Xbox One X will not accepted the Setting "1440p with 120hz" with my HP X27i Monitor. Do you now that issue ?

With a lot of monitors, the lower the resolution, the higher the refresh rate you can have.

Near as I can tell, that monitor has a native refresh rate at 1440p of 60Hz (that is what it defaults to)...it then uses Variable refresh rate to bump it up higher. As noted above, the EDID fails as the Xbox needs a 120Hz setting to run at 120Hz. The monitor will definitely do 120Hz via HDMI but only on a PC/Laptop it seems.

I can't confirm it but I suspect that the monitor's native RR for 1080p is 120Hz.

This has been an issue for quite a few HP models, both whilst using the One X and also whilst using the newer Series X/S's

I don't know what kind of monitor you are using but I have my computer attached to "HDMI 1" and my xbox attached to "HDMI 2". To achieve this you must but an HDMI cord and hook it from you Xbox into the monitor. A laptop does have an HDMI input but I'm unaware
if you can play your Xbox off of your laptop.

It's a Pavilion dv6 with Windows 7 64-bit home OS, 4GB DDR3 RAM 1333Mhz, 1GB AMD HD Radeon 6490, 4 USB ports (2 of them 3.0 USB 2 2.0), disc drive, yes it's a 15' laptop, and Intel Core i5 processor 2.4Ghz turbo boost to 2.9Ghz. And yes HP put an HDMI port
on it. Got it 2011.

I can use the HDMI port for viewing what I do visually on my laptop on my HDTV, but not for Xbox 360 and don't think so for Xbox 1 for viewing on my PC. I've tried hooking up my 360 slim console but it doesn't work. I'm going to stick with my HDTV as a display
monitor. As soon as I saw the HDMI port I just assumed it would work when I tried to connect my 360.
