I am very sorry for the problem you are experiencing, I suggest the following steps to try to solve the problem, recommended by Xbox Support:

Before you begin troubleshooting connection or power issues with your Xbox controller, try the following:

Check battery level: Replace controller batteries with new ones, or make sure rechargeable controllers can be recharged. (Do this if your controller still has power; weak batteries can cause issues and functionality.)

Turn your console completely off and turn it back on: Press and hold the Xbox button  for 5-10 seconds, until the controller turns off. Wait a few seconds, then press and hold the Xbox button  again to turn the controller back on.

If that doesn't work, try the following:

1. Turn your console completely off and turn it back on by pressing and holding the Xbox  button on the front of the console for approximately 10 seconds. Once the console turns off, unplug the power cable from the console for 30 seconds, and then plug the console back in. You must press the Xbox  button to start the console.

2. If your controller still won't connect to your console after completely turning off your console and turning it back on, try connecting your controller directly to your console using a USB-C cable (or USB to micro-USB cable for Xbox One controllers). ).

3. If the control works correctly with a wired connection, continue to the next step.

4. If the controller does not work when connected with a USB cable, please carefully check that the problem is not related to the cable or port. Try a different cable or port or connect to another device. If you have verified that the cable and port work, and the controller does not work when plugged in, you should replace the controller (see "Replace the controller" below).

5. Update the control firmware. You can do this on your console by pressing the Xbox  button to open the guide, then selecting Profile & system > Settings > Devices & connections > Controllers & headsets. Select "... on the controller you are trying to troubleshoot to check the firmware status.

Thank's for the reply, i tried everything that you said and nothing changed, the only thing that works it's the mouse, but besides that, stills the same, cannot move, all the keyboard keys don't work, that goes for typing and changing controls.

I appreciate your efforts. Have you already tried to reinstall the game instead? If not yet, please uninstall the game then restart your PC. Try to install the game this time through the Xbox app.

Yes if the xbox cannot turn on it isn't available to pair with, but this is only when it's unplugged. That means if my kids are using the xbox I can't use the controller for anything else.

Edit: having now re-paired the controller with the PC it seems that turning the controller on is not waking up the xbox, so touch wood the PC pairing has now overwritten the xbox pairing.

That does imply I can't really use it for both if I wanted to, without messing around, but no matter. I do wish there was more sophisticated management of these devices. I just got some Bose noise cancelling BT headphones and I've got them paired with
phone, iPad and two laptops. They can connect to any two at the same time, and you can cycle through them by a switch.
