  1. We need a Resolution Boost for the Xbox One games on Xbox Series X

Many of the Xbox One games launched prior to One X were running at less than 1080p.
When the Xbox One X launched, it also had a feature to Upscale some of the Xbox 360 games to 4K.
Since the Series X is 8 times more powerful than the Xbox One (S), can we expect a Resolution Boost mode similar to the FPS Boost mode that ups the resolution of these games.

It seems plausible as currently for some of the titles (Far Cry 4, Watch Dogs 2) that got the FPS boost there's no difference between Series S and Series X. That would mean there's enough headroom to offer Resolution boost for such games.

How can I get fps boost to enable on my 4k tv.

    Hi,

FPS boost is enabled on the console and compatible game, not via the TV.

Only a set amount of Xbox games have FPS boost. Firstly, you need either a Series X or Series S. FPS boost is not available on the older Xbox One, One S or One X consoles.

Secondly, your game needs to be on this list. The link also has a YouTube video explaining the feature.

Thirdly, to achieve the highest 120Hz setting on selected games, you'll need a TV or monitor that supports that refresh rate.

If I buy the Xbox one Hogwarts Legacy will I be able to play also on Xbox series X/S after is it compatible ?

Virtually all Xbox One games are compatible

It will not take advantage of the resolution and features of Series console. It will deliver Xbox One levels of performance on Series S, One X on Series X

No FPS Boost for Shadow of the Tomb Raider

    Hi,

I believe there is some confusion between 'Optimised for Series X|S' and FPS boost. When a game is optimised for Series X|S, it means that a game update was released from the developer of that particular game to boost it's graphics and performance. Optimised games will not have an FPS boost option in compatibility settings.

The recent update to Shadow of the Tomb raider increased the game resolution to 4K (using dynamic rendering) increasing the frame rate at 4K to 60 fps. The Xbox One X version of the game only runs at 30 fps in 4K.

FPS boost is a game modification made by Microsoft's own BC team, the developer doesn't provide this boost. Some Xbox One games with FPS boost have it enabled by default, others (usually the 120Hz enabled titles) do not.

Like I said earlier, Optimised games do not have an FPS boost option as the performance has been increased by the developer.

    I hope that makes sense.

Series: X versus One: X - How do Xbox (original) and Xbox 360 titles look?

I found what I was looking for on Tom's Guide. You just sent me a link to the Series: X, which doesn't answer what I was asking, which is how the Series: X compares to One: X in backwards compatible titles. From a graphics standpoint, they don't differ necessarily. But, yes...in the link you sent me it states that the Series: X benefits from its internal SSD.

I will highlight, in bold, the info that I was (more or less) looking for. Thought it still doesn't tell me what filtering either Xbox is applying e.g. are both using anisotropic filtering 16x? MSAA 4x? Or 8x? MLAA? Etc.

In celebration of 20 years of Xbox, Microsoft unveiled a list of 76 new backwards compatible games from the original Xbox and Xbox 360 eras for the Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and Xbox One.

And 37 of these games will benefit from FPS Boost, where frame rates and performance is improved without developer intervention.

There are some big hitters in both lists. All of the Max Payne and FEAR games are playable on Xbox One and Series X/S for the first time, as are classics like TimeSplitters 2, Red Dead Revolver and Manhunt. All of these will benefit from Auto HDR, and original Xbox titles will get a 4x resolution boost on Series X and Xbox One X systems, a 3x bump on Series S and a 2x enhancement on One S and One consoles.

FPS Boost, meanwhile, will allow titles like Alan Wake, Sonic Generations, Oblivion and all of the Gears of War games to hit 60 frames per second.
