Warranty scam?

I think that this is very unfair how you have been given a refurbished controller when you have shelled out for a new one. Have you tried customer support again? Let us know the outcome if so.

You paid for a new controller and you should get a new controller. (IMO)

Sorry to hear your problem. I would write to the support again and explain the situation. I think a solution will be found.

Thank you for your replies and support I will definetly contact Microsoft once again to discuss the matter.

I've made the purchase from another retailer back in the late November 2019 during Black Friday sales, but since it was intended to be a gift I just checked that controllers look alright and connect to the PC. I noticed the strange thing with infinitely
moving cursor on one of the controllers, but decided that it was due to firmware and such. Later, I accidentilly noticed that warranty for separately sold controller is just 90 days and decided to check the strange controller more thoroughly, and realised
that it's faulty. And here we are.

I would return it take photos with your phone before you send it off my friend. Hope you get a result.

Well, it might be an option, but first of all nobody warned me about such replacement policy and due to the policy who can guarantee that the next replacement will be a better looking refurbished device?..

Thanks for the replies. When you gt a controller repaired, it is replaced with a new one. They are not refurbished. This is why you are unable to get a controller repaired that is out of warranty. If they were refurbished you would be able to. We are sorry
that the one you got was damaged. This could be a shipping issue. As suggested we recommend sending it back. Also an important note: if they test out the controller you sent in and there is nothing wrong they send it back.
