Wanted my Xbox gamertag shortened, now its only longer.

My original Gamertag was 4. Today, I decided to change it to , since it appeared that the Gamertag was available. After I changed it, I realized that now it is 974, which is now 2 digits longer than it was before. I'm
wondering if there is a way, at the very least, to change my Gamertag back to 4, or just change it to .

you cant, 12 characters excluding the suffix is the new limit, no way of changing back to your original name.

Even if I pay though, I can't undo it and get back to 4. All I want is to have that back, so I only have 1/3 of the numbers to remember.

So is there no way to revert the change I made, and go back to my old gamertag (TheDarkCoder4)?

You can go back to your previous gamertag, you’ll jusy need to pay to do this or you can create a new account with the gamertag you wish to use.

Please also note: Since the gamertag system change, The character limit has been changed to 12 from 15.

Unfortunately once you’ve used the one free gamertag change, you’ll have to pay to change it again. There’s no way of getting another free gamertag change.

The 974 at the end of your gamertag is because it’s already taken. The new system is if a gamertag is already in use, It will attach a unique suffix (Eg. Gamertag#1234) - Meaning that multiple players can have the same gamertag.
