Wanted gamertag taken by inactive account

You can still use it, but you will be given a suffix. Otherwise, you'd have to wait for original owner to change it or for it to be freed up by Microsoft. There's no way to truly know how inactive an account is since they are used on multiple Microsoft services.

Hi! unfortunately no. If it's taken it can be an inactive account that has it. But, with the new gamertag system that is being implemented you'll be able to have a similar gamertag to the one you want.

I believe that it is unfair that 98% of all original gamertags are inactive and have be inactive for many, many months/ years. I have always wanted an original tag but it always seems someone has already taken in on an inactive account that has not be sign
into for years. This is unfair because many people creating accounts with original gamertags forgetting the email and password to sign in to them and even play on them. Original gamertags should be reset it the account shows no sign of life or activity for
more then a year. The least the person can do is sign in on Xbox.com. Don't do anything to their account but just refresh the gamertags to give someone else a chance.

Just because the account/gamertag is not active on Xbox it may still be active and getting used elsewhere within the Microsoft network just not on Xbox.

Agreed! Very angry at all the inactive accounts that are left as there are a lot of good gamertags that are taken and not in use! Another reset is 100% REQUIRED AND NEEDED!
