Want to change my XBOX GAMER TAG but it says "not allowed"

believe it or not it maybe down to that shiesty word as it does mean deceitful and untrustworthy which may not be liked in some countries, as it is a global platform they have to cater for everyone in that area.

the free gamer tag change was only allowed when your gamer tag change was forced. People abused this by reporting gamer tags that people wanted to change so once a force change was made they then changed it again to what they wanted for free. Because
of that abuse of the system all game tag changes now cost even if a force change has happened.

Gamer tags don't reset. Please Note that Microsoft only allows you to change your gamer tag only once for free. if you want to change your Gamertag it's going to cost $10. gamer

And you are wrong with the quote that only a certain type of gamer tags are allowed to be changed free. Go to your xbox profile page and try to edit your gamer tag. You will see a prompt that says you are allowed to change it free only once. There is absolutely
no other criteria specified there. For as long as I haven't made any change to what was given to me, I still qualify for a free change.
