video goes dark every 10 minutes while watching movies

I used to be able to turn off my controller when watching movies , now I can't. what changed and how do I fix it?

Bug Report - Idle dimming occurs during video playback

While useful to dim the screen after X minutes of idle activity, the newest preview update does not ignore dimming during video playback. This is especially evident while watching movies, when I need to reach for the controller every 10 minutes to wake up
the screen.

 

mp1032 constantly makes it unwatchable

mp1032 on Amazon instant video happened every other minute while watching Amazing Spider Man!

Sorry to hear about the trouble with this. To check, does this happen with a specific app?

 

I've had a similar issue occur. On both HBOgo and Netflix apps (have not tried Amazon Video or Plex yet). It started yesterday. The video will play for approx. 10 minutes and then the screen will dim. It's like the Xbox enters idle mode and doesn't know
a video is playing.

Coincidentally my Xbox media remote is not functioning right as of yesterday. The ABXY and Xboc buttons work, but not the play/pause/FF/REW commands.

 

Thanks for clarifying, Green Man! We are currently looking into screen dimming issues. We don't know when this will be resolved, but we're happy to follow up with you once it is.

At this time, the best way to prevent the screen dimming temporarily is by fully quitting the app and then launching it again. To do this, you will go back to the Home screen, hit the Menu button on your controller to bring up the menu, and then select Quit.
For Netflix, we have found the doing a hard power cycle for 5 minutes solves this issue in their app. This involves unplugging your console for that duration, and then trying again.

For the media remote, do you have an IR blaster or a Kinect on your console? That will help us to start trying to find out what's happening there.

 

Update: I did a Full Shutdown of the Xbox and that seemed to have fixed the dimming and media remote issue. Not sure what caused it, but both are working fine. It had been a while since the Xbox was fully shut down so that could've been a contributing factor.
