Using a PAL Xbox 360 in Japan

    Hi,

I may go to Japan for quite some time, and I would like to take my 360 with me (you know, having PAL games, I'm not really interested in buying an NTSC console and NTSC versions of games that are region-locked). The thing is, I've heard that electronic devices
aren't powered the same way depending on which part of the world you live in. So, my question is: if I were to take my PAL 360 to Japan, what should I do to make it work?

So far, I came up with two ideas: buying a Japanese power supply or buying a universal power adaptater.

The thing is, I'm worried about those two solutions as my 360 might get too much (or not enough) power and end up fried.

Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks!

    :)

    can't download halo 3, errorcode 80150017

If you change regions, you'll have access to content on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace for Japan.

Games you purchase on discs for your Xbox 360 will be in whatever region your console was originally purchased in.

North America (United States/Canada, etc): NTSC

    Europe (United Kingdom, etc): PAL

    Asia (Japan, etc): NTSC-J

If your console was purchased in Germany for example it would be a PAL console. If you wished to purchase disc based games you'd get PAL games. The Xbox LIVE Marketplace in Japan will only show you games that are available for that region. Those will be the
games you can purchase and download properly on your console.

    Moving to New Zealand

Plus the Xbox 360 is region locked, NTSC Xbox 360s (USA, Canada, Mexico) will only play American games, just like PAL Xbox 360s (Europe, Australia, and New Zealand) will only play European/Australian games, and then NTSC-J Xbox 360s (Japan) will only play
Japanese games. So just buy a PAL Xbox 360 and rebuild your collection from there, otherwise, I would upgrade to the Xbox One if I were you, Xbox One is region free.

You'll need an adapter to change the plug type on the outlet. The brick should do the conversion, although I'd check on it to make sure.

Where can I check to know if the block can handle this?

I remember that, depending on the motherboard, FAT 360s have different blocks, but I believe they are "forward compatible" (that is 203W blocks can be used with 175W motherboards, for example—don't know about the other way around), so it seems that blocks
can change depending on what's hooked to them.

But how to know for sure?

On the bottom side, check the input. If it says something like INPUT: 110-220V 50/60 Hz, then the brick does the conversion. If it only lists 110, and not 220, or vice versa, then it doesn't. You'd still need an adapter to change the outlet, however.

Well, mine says "200-240V, 2.5A, 47-63Hz". So, different numbers, but seems like my block still manages different values. I would just have to make sure that 110V isn't the regular value in Japan.

For the outlet, it's ok, I would need an adaptater for things such as my phone or my laptop anyway, and I can still buy the Japanese block outlet once there.

Thanks a lot for your help!

You would need the correct power brick for Japan.

You should never use any type of power adapter/converter with your console.

So far, I know that Japanese consoles run on 100V @ 50Hz (E) or 100V @ 60Hz (W) power supplies, European consoles (at least, in the part of Europe I'm from) run on 230V @ 50Hz.

Considering the fact that my power supply can't go as low as 100V or even 110V, I would need to buy a Japanese 100V PSU (50 or 60Hz) with a 175W output (that's my console) instead of a converter or adaptater, is that what you meant?

    Yes.

Power converters/adapters can damage your console so it is recommended never to use them
