    Using a 120gb or 60gb drive in a Xbox 360s

I have had to purchase a new (to me) 360s due to some issues with my dvd drive in my elite (fat) console. The elite console has a 120gb hard drive and I would like to use this in my 360S. I also have a 60gb disk lying around too. Would this be a problem?

MS no longer supports that 360 and while there is drives out there I am concerned about their legitimacy and receiving a console ban if i end up with a fake. I would also like to play some original xbox games too.

From searching, It seems that removing the drive from the original enclosure might be problem and could get my console banned too. I guess they might be able to tell that a 60/120gb doesnt belong with a S model. It shouldnt be so hard to try and do the right
thing and use legtimate MS products.

Console bans should also be allowed ro be reviewed.

so which way do I gamble with this?

    :)

    Using a 120gb or 60gb drive in a Xbox 360s

    Thanks for taking the time.

    The situation is:

    - I have no problems using an external drive as I have already been doing so for some games

    - Backwards compatibility requires a genuine MS drive

    - Some newer games wont even run without an internal hard drive.

    - I have existing official genuine fat style drives 60 and 120gb

    - I can buy a shell/case and remove drive to use internally in the S model

    - Since posting and after some searching using a fat model drive in a S console which only had 250, 320 and 500gig drives might violate the TOS and lead to a console ban.

    - Microsoft doesnt sell drives anymore, they arent available at local retailers, so I can only purchase a drive on the used market and accidentally buying and using a unoffical drive is a real possibility that could lead to a ban.

    - Console bans stop you from accessing xblive to purchase games, download apps, etc.

    - I cannot contact Microsoft directly as they no longer offer 360 support to resolve my concerns.

    - Console bans are permanant and irreversible (which is dumb) according to the xbox enforcement support documents.

    - Xbox One is not in my budget.

Rant: It shouldnt be this hard to use a console

So there is real risk in using genuine hardware and purchasing from the used market, which either scenario could lead to a ban. I am trying to guage the risk and I am unsure how tonproceed.

    Hi!

The console requires specific and original HDD (or compatible HDD) to be then formatted and used. Other models may not be identified by the console.

    I appreciate you replying.

I am in Canada, Gamestop equivalent is ebgames. They do not have any of those drives available and they havent been available for quite some time. There is litterally no retail locations for me purchase these drives locally or online in Canada, hence the
need to gamble on the used market.

I am less concerned with potentially damaging the drive then being banned from xbox live. I wouldnt be modifying the drive itself for any purpose, just moving it from one enclosure to another for the purpose of backwards compatibility and some games require
an internal drive. Even potential data loss is fine.

Well they may have gotten cheaper, its still $300 CAD for me, and if I had the money to spend right now, I would do that.

I just would like to play some games on my existing console that I hadnt played yet, and continue using some of the xbox live features.

Hello I would start here and maybe follow instructions or directions from a legitimate xbox website.

    https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-360/accessories/add-remove-hard-drive

I would be very careful when trying to mess too much with your console, due to modding and such bans can take place if detected.

My suggestion would be instead of pouring what money and time you have on fixing up another 360 you might as well buy a used xbox one...since the xbox one x came out they have gotten significantly cheaper.
