Username not available?

Currently in the process of changing usernames on all older accounts, and Xbox was first up. I made sure the user I was going to use was 12 characters or under, and yet its saying its unavailable despite trying it in several different ways. I severely doubt that anyone else has used the same user as me, since its fairly unique, and I've used it on countless different websites with no problems whatsoever. Nothing is working, and this user is my namesake, I am not willing to change it. Is there anything else I can do?

Tried with capitals, all lowercase, adding different numbers on the end (can only add one due to the extremely inconvenient 12 character limit), staggering capitals and lowercase every other, adding a number randomly in the middle, etc. Nothing worked. Trying to change it similar to how my profile name appears on here.

Please be advised that gamertag system is being managed alone by the system's algorithm. If it says that it's not allowed or not available, I am afraid we cannot use or claim those tags for some reason as it's being filtered out by the system.

I just want to confirm, if you tried to change it to a different gamertag, does it tell you that it's available except for your preferred one?

There is no schedule or estimated dates for when certain GTs will become available again. GTs are not an on-demand service. They will be available when they are available.

No. There is no way to request a gamertag. The gamertag system is in use on other Microsoft services as well so even if it isn't in use on the 360, it could still be in use elsewhere.

Thank you for the responses. It was inevitable; my hope was that gamertags that had been inactive for too long were made available again, maybe in the near future.

I regret to inform you, but in the Microsoft forums, we’re not able to change usernames or something related to the user information.

The method Mr. David mentioned is the one available if you require changing your username. However, it is important to point out that the username you want, may not be available to be selected.
