Usable support for lost password

I am attempting to reset a password for my father, he is in his 70’s and an avid Xbox player. Recently his Xbox one disc drive died and he purchased an Xbox Series X. He hasn’t had to enter a password for his gamer ID for years and cannot remember his password. The completely useless online help either wants you to sign in for a call back or rejects the reset as not having enough information despite having his gamer tag and his Xbox one s/n. To prevent him from opening up another email I have been having the code sent to my email. Is there any useful way to get his password reset or should he just create a new profile (it would be using the same email as his old profile). Creating a new email for an account isn’t an option for reasons I won’t go into on a forum.

Sorry to hear that, the only way to recover an Xbox account is via the account recovery form here https://account.live.com/password/reset

You can try all the emails you remember or if you had a phone number attached to the account, you can use that too.

Or you can try fill this other form too https://account.live.com/acsr

Sadly, an account cannot be recovered with the gamertag alone.

The page will have steps for a Lost password but also a Lost account.

In the Contact Us page, click on the 'My Account' option, followed by the 'Password and Security'
