  1. Upgraded to Faster Powerline Adapter, Now Experiencing Random Lag

I recently upgraded my powerline adapter, significantly boosting my internet speed from 20-40 Mbps to 100 Mbps (my connection is still a 100mbps fiber line). However, I've noticed a new issue - my Xbox One is experiencing random lags during online gaming, whereas previously, I only faced lag when other people connected to the internet. The Xbox is connected with an Ethernet cable (I have tried connecting directly to the powerline or using a splitter, but the results are the same).

I've tried relocating the powerline adapters (made sure there are no power demanding appliances close), checking for firmware updates, changing DNS servers on my Xbox One (I used NextDNS as a benchmark results to be the fastest for my location), hard rebooting my xbox but the problem persists. I have also tried using powerline WiFi (still at 100mbps), and the result is still the same. I reseted everything back in default on my Xbox and the console network statistics give me the following results:

    Download speed:93mbps

    Latency:53ms

    Upload speed:10mbps

    Packet loss:0

    MTU:1480

Has anyone encountered a similar situation or have suggestions on how to troubleshoot and fix this random lag issue?

TLDR: Upgraded to faster internet but experiencing more in-game lag.

    :)

Upgraded to Faster Powerline Adapter, Now Experiencing Random Lag

Thank you for the fast response. The primary reason I use a powerline adapter is that I can't directly connect my console to the modem. The powerline adapter and the console are compatible, and I am getting great speeds; however, the issue lies in the in-game lag I experience at random moments.

Hello IOANNIS T, my name is Oskayra, and I will be happy to help you.

Beforehand, it is important that you keep in mind that this is a public community forum, so we are players like you, we are not employees of Microsoft or Xbox, so we do not have access to any user account or check anything from the forum. All users help each other with common problems.

I'm very sorry for the problem you're going through. I was researching Xbox Support about these network problems, and I found this article (https://support.xbox.com/help/hardware-network/connect-network/xbox-one -connection-speed) where they show that the solution to the problem can be solved by following these steps:

"Connect your console directly to the modem instead of connecting it to the router. This is a temporary solution aimed at helping determine the cause of the problem.

If you can connect with a direct modem connection, the console and modem work as expected. To connect to the router, you may need to change some settings on the router.

On the router, disconnect the network cable that connects it to the console (leave the other end of this cable connected to the console).

On the modem, disconnect the network cable that connects the modem to the router. At this point, neither the console nor the modem should be connected to the router.

Now connect the console directly to the modem (use the same cable that connected the console to the router).

Press and hold the Xbox  button on your console for at least five seconds to turn it off.

Unplug the power cord from the back of the modem.

After a minute, plug the modem back in and wait for all the lights to return to normal.

    Turn on the console.

Check your connection again (Profile & system > Settings > General > Network settings > Test network speed and statistics).

If this fixes the connection issue, it means that the router is incompatible with the Xbox console due to its firmware or the router has experienced a hardware error. You have the following options:

Contact your router manufacturer to see if there is a firmware update you can install on your router. After installing the firmware update, try connecting directly to the router again.

Try restoring the router to its factory defaults. You may need to consult the device's documentation or contact the router manufacturer for help with this.

    Buy a new router.

If this does NOT fix your connection issue, you may need to contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to resolve this issue. For example, you may need to ask your ISP about replacing the faulty modem, checking the modem settings, or checking the connection speed.

Also keep in mind that not all ISPs use the same design or the same network protocols and processes. It's also possible that your ISP is experiencing known issues that may be preventing your Xbox console from connecting.

Before contacting your ISP, be sure to document the problem with as much information as possible. Write down any error messages you receive and make a note of any changes you made while trying to fix the problem."

Thank you for your patience, I hope everything can be resolved. I will be attentive to your response. Blessings.

    Sincerely,
    Oskayra.

Xbox One multiplayer lag. How to increase internet speeds for gaming.

    Hi Diehard,

Using an extender will definitely help a little bit, but it would still most likely be much better for you to run a cat6 cable from the attic to your console. Then you wont have any lag, or network issues at all.

If this isnt possible, the next best option for you is to look for something called a powerline adapter for networking.

Here's a list of great adapters to try.

    What are Powerline adaptors?
Powerline is a simple-to-install digital home technology that can provide faster speeds than Wi-Fi for connecting devices to your network, regardless of whether
or not they're in the same room as your router.

It uses your home's mains power wires to create a network connection that - in many cases - is faster than Wi-Fi. It isn't limited to gadgets that have an Ethernet port: some powerline kits can create powerful new Wi-Fi hotspots to give you a wireless signal
in rooms or areas your router can't reach.

It's simple, easy to set up, and inexpensive given that it will greatly improve your home network for streaming HD TV, gaming and other data-hungry devices and services.

    Lagy connection

    Hi TiFo,

I'm sorry to hear about your problem. You might not expect it that much but the problem could be the Powerline Adapter you are using. This Adapter may cause lag because it is not as direct as a Network Cable or WiFi Connection. Please try the following,
Use a ethernet cable or WiFi connection as internet source for your Xbox 360 Console instead of the Powerline Adapter. Please post back on how this worked out for you.

    Regards,
