    Upgraded Google Fiber and now I keep getting dropped from game servers only on wifi


    I lose connection to the game servers while playing online games only when connected to wifi. Wired works, but isn't feasible due to router/modem location.

    The games include Gears 5, MLB The Show, and Apex Legends.

    This started 2 weeks ago when I upgraded to the new Google Fiber 2 Gig. The upgrade required a new modem/router. My old Google Fiber hardware worked just fine.

    I have tried power cycling everything, removing the wifi mesh from the network, setting up reserved IP, manual port forwarding, using only 2ghz, etc. Nothing except using ethernet works reliably now.

    1 important troubleshooting thing is that I can play an online game with a friend over headset and I'll get kicked from the game server, but we can still talk to each other so I know the wifi connection is still good.

    Wifi speed is great on the xbox series X every time I check. Ping is higher than it used to be, I previously usually had a ping under 20, but now it's around 65. On ethernet my ping now goes down to 35 which still feels high.

    What else (besides turning DMZ on) can I try?

    I'm Samy an independent advisor. Welcome to the Xbox community. How are you?

    Games can use additional/different ports than Xbox Live uses and when you are connected wired or wireless the IP's may be different and the port forwarding you made to X IP will not apply to another IP. It is also possible that even if you are doing port forwarding on your equipment this does not reflect on your network, the ports may have been blocked since before reaching your home.

    I would try the DMZ function, it's the only function I use with the console and the one I like to use.

    They are actually 2 completely separate workstreams and processes for those. We have our device database and partners and our guide data and partners and they work independently from each other. There are places they cross (set top boxes), but many places
    they don't (TVs, AVRs, etc).

    I think it might be more to participation from the cable provider than anything. You should contact them to see if there's something they can do about it.

    Hey there Mr Rogers,

    I'd be happy to provide some input.

    As an Xbox One X owner myself, I have personally experienced some intermittent connection problems hardwired as well. Generally basic troubleshooting does the trick, but does not solve the problem entirely.

    I have seen a small amount of users also experiencing similar issues with the Xbox One X hardwired. What you describe is very similar to what happens to mine, a brief disconnection and then everything automatically goes back to normal. However, that's enough
    to boot you from multiplayer and in some cases makes the game close due to the entitlement not being recognized for that brief time.

    By any chance would you happen to be enrolled in the Xbox Insider program? I've thought about that could be the cause as the preview update builds may have some issues included in them and I was enrolled in the program for a few months before I left the
    program.

    I would suggest trying a
    soft factory reset
    to reset your Xbox to factory defaults,
    but before you do that make sure you know for sure your login information as the reset does remove the accounts form your Xbox and you will need to re-download them.

    Even if you aren't in the Insider Program, you may still report a problem on your Xbox by downloading the

    Xbox Insider Hub
    app and report the problem from the quick shut down menu by holding down the Xbox button on the controller. I have reported the problem myself and highly recommend you do so as well to get more cases sent to Microsoft.
