my only complaint is that it seems to lock up every now and then in between official updates and the betas....It just gets really old having to do a hard reset or just wait and see if it will unlock itself within 3-5 minutes of waiting for the screen to
unfreeze between apps/games. I just hope this constant updating doesn't leave the UI looking like the current 360 version which is sluggish at best now. It was so damn fast the first night I got it.

I heard they are selling the Turbo Graphix 16 again and it has no more updates if you want to try that out. The games start up quickly with no annoying patches and I hear Boink is pretty sweet and the cards are slim and 16 BIT!!

  3. The best thing about the Xbox One is the updates happen when I'm asleep or at work, so there has been no wait time on the new UI updates for me, it's been great!

There's been 1 system update per month since launch, aside from January when they didn't put one out.

A ton of stuff has been added/fixed though: -

    en.wikipedia.org/.../Xbox_One_system_software

If you're in the preview program then sure, you will get several updates per month, but if you don't like that you can opt out.

Updates are frequent and yes annoying but usually they bring extra's and improvements.
    Best of all, they're FREE!!
Microsoft is notorious for making lots of Updates just like Java and Adobe and AVG do. What is a greater issue on the Xbox 1 compared to the Xbox 360, is the SIZE of the updates too. Monthly system updates tend to be around 180 or more MB, game updates can
even be in the low 1/2/3/4GB's.

However I will say this from my experience, downloading Updates on Xbox 1 is FASTER than downloading Updates on Xbox 360, since Xbox 1 has 300,000 XBL servers worldwide and Xbox 360 only 15,000
XBL servers worldwide. It took me 2 hours to download a 2GB game update for TDU2 on Xbox 360. Where as it only too me 20 minutes max to download and install a 3GB update for Zoo Tycoon Xbox 1 which came out several weeks or a couple of months ago.

Updates yuh they're annoying and frequent but everything needs to be updated every now and then to keep up with improvements needed and feedback as well, to add new features in and an attempt
    to fix any bugs.

Just to let every1 know I'm NOT in "this" Preview Program. It's wise only to have the publically released official Dashboard Version than be running a beta on a console. Beta's are notorious for having bugs even if they nicknamed it "Preview Program".
Only have Officially-publically-finished official software running my stuff. Updates also help improve security gaffes that's why Xbox 1 has been getting system updates monthly and much more than Xbox 360 gets system updates, because Xbox 1 uses architecture
similar to PC's and Microsoft needs to keep releasing updates cuz there are bad peps who exploit it, and Microsoft wants to keep Xbox safe and fun. They release monthly updates for Windows too. It is extremely rare of reports which indicate peps have had a
virus on a genuine Xbox 360 or Xbox 1 console. Xbox 360 has different hardware to PC's which make it harder to get, and in Xbox 1's case, it's regularly updated, since launch theres been a system update for Xbox 1 pretty much every month since Xbox 1 came
    out.

  8. Updates. There are FAR too many of them.

One update a month isn't a lot of updates, and I sincerely doubt all of them combined would mount to over 20gb. Also if you use Instant On, and have it in standby, the Xbox One will automatically update for you.

    Way to over exaggerate OP.

OP - you need to be clear, as someone else has asked already - are you talking about System updates (which only happen once a month) or, more likely, you're talking about Game updates.

If Game updates - NOTHING to do with MS, suggest you avoid those game dev/publishers in future as they are at fault (and will also be the case on PSBore). (And BTW, yes people have complained and posted about Game update sizes before).

If he recently bought forza, dead rising 3 and the sniper game that is a whopping about of download already gone. All three have updates ranging from 2-16 gig. Add into the equation of a few system updates as well and the op does have a sound argument and
it isn't as farfetched. If you want to buy a Playstation 4 go right ahead, ultimately it is solely your decision OP as it is one of those personal choice kind of thing. Being that the constant update stuff is annoying you maybe that is the right idea.

I have all those games and again never notice any updates as they happen automatically, guess Im lucky with a decent internet connection as well. I can see how it would be annoying if you had to wait for manual downloads over a poor connection. Some
of the game updates do seem a tad over the top in size.

Updates. There are FAR too many of them.

OP there are a number of ways to avoid the "it's time to update" screen.

    1. opt out of the preview program

    2. use "Instant on" and the console will update even when it's off

    3. Turn your console on, go do something else then come back

MS is trying to make the Xbox One a better console with every update and being in the preview program means you get to test it early but it also means more updates. So you just have to weigh your options.

In the future please note that profanity is not allowed on the forums. Thanks.

I haven't seen a download occur in over 6 months, see intant-on mode. If you've a data cap then it sure may be annoying, but for me it's perfect, everything updated in the background without ever having to sit and wait.

My friend has been having this exact same problem and he is in the "Preview Program". He has updates EVERY single day. Your provided information was THE most helpful advice in this entire thread. Thank you. I will relay your helpful information to him.
