Update fault.

I tried to rest the console keeping the games and apps but it required to be connect to the Internet which I connected to my WiFi then it went stright to the update screen. So I just went along with the full reset when setting xbox up as you do when you
buy the console new it got to the update section and is now stuck on that screen showing no percentage of update or noting like that. As if it's frozen. Thanks Harry.

I'm sorry to hear that this is happening, hopefully we'll be able to get it sorted out. If the online update is causing problems then perhaps an

offline update is what is needed. If that doesn't work or help, then I have also included a link for extra troubleshooting in case you notice what errors are popping up and what might help to fix them. Good luck and let us know if any of these solutions

If you've tried the power cycle method and it hasn't helped, then maybe try a factory reset while keeping your games and apps. Here is the guide to it,

If you’re ready to reset your console to the factory default settings, follow these steps:

1. Press the Xbox button  to open the guide.
2. Select System > Settings > System > Console info.
3. Select Reset console.
4. On the Reset your console? screen, you'll see three options:
   • Reset and remove everything. This option resets the console to factory settings. All user data, including accounts, saved games, settings, home Xbox associations, and all games and apps will be deleted. Use this option when selling
     or gifting the console, or as a last resort in some troubleshooting cases.
   • Reset and keep my games & apps. Use this option as your primary choice when troubleshooting. It will reset the OS and delete all potentially corrupted data without deleting your games or apps. In some cases, if a corrupt game file
     is causing the issue you're troubleshooting, you may have to choose Reset and remove everything, but you should always start with Reset and keep my games & apps.
   • Cancel. To back out of this screen, simply select the Cancel button. No action has been taken at this point. This is a safe exit from this screen.

Although, you wouldn't necessarily know it has faults until after you made your purchase. Everything has faults after awhile. The power of gaming, when there is a fault, the developers have the power to fix these faults with an update, such as an mechanic
would repair faults on a car.

To redeem a code via the new Xbox UI go to the 'Games' tab and choose 'Browse all games' you will then see 'Use a code' on the top right hand side of your screen
