    Hi,

    You can't buy unused gamertags I'm afraid. You will have to wait until Microsoft release the unused gamertag which they do occasionally. It could be years though.

    Do you think Microsoft will clear out old unused gamertags?

    Do you think Microsoft will ever clear out the old unused gamertags that have not ever been actually used or have had their last activity 7+ years ago?

    I'm sorry, but MegaMasterX and MegaMaster X are two different tags, and I get a different message when trying to change my tag to "MegaMaster X".

    I called Xbox Support back and am hoping to get some results soon. It's not like I'm trying to take a Gamertag from someone who is actively using it at all.

    It doesn't state that it's unavailable, just that its reserved. I was informed to ask for Enforcement's aid in this by Xbox Support directly.

    There is no way to reserve gamertags, as no such specific system exists. All gamertags are on a first-come, first-serve basis. If it has already been taken, you will have to choose another name.

    The only way to "reserve" a gamertag is to create a new Microsoft account with that gamertag (if you plan on starting fresh), or pay the fee to change your gamertag on your existing Microsoft account.

    Gamertags are released if a user does not log on to their Microsoft account for five straight years, as that is how Microsoft purges inactive accounts from their systems. Some people may not have an Xbox profile, but they still keep their Microsoft account
    active through other Microsoft services (email, Office, etc). There is no way to check the remaining time (before termination) of any given account.
