Unused account with gamer tags

So i was looking at this account with a name i want and wondering why they dont just clear smurfs with gamertags they dont use them they just hog the name like for example i want the gamertag Alice but because of a 0 gamerscore account that isnt used for
anything its just a random smurf i cant get the name like why dont they remove those gamertags from the account and free them up for someone who actually will use it???

Hi there.

Account gametags has to be inactive for 5 years before being up for grabs again. So don't get your hopes up.

I hate that I wish that we could delete accounts- free up unused gamer tags . . . it would be so nice!

I'd add in unused gamer tags for an extended period of time to that proposal. Release them to the public for the taking. I'd love the gamer tag 'Kanaye' but it's already tied to an account that last saw use in 2010, if the last acquired achievement is an
indicative.

If the change attempt says the gamertag is taken, it is taken. It's hard to look things up thoroughly: your example is taken because there is a gamertag called "A MOUNT".

Recently MS has been perma deleting original tags that have been jacked / bought / sold, in the past. The gamertag you are looking for might be a zune account but could also possibly be deleted.
