Unresponsive xbox 1 wireless controller

I have a wireless xbox 1 controller, bought from Amazon, which has stopped working. I have contacted Amazon who have told me it is under one year's warranty and to contact Microsoft but when I try to arrange a replacement and go
to the Microsoft website I cannot enter the details on the form. It asks for: Please look for the number on the controller in this format XXXXXXXXXX-XXXXXX (10 digits - 6 digits).This is located behind the battery compartment
above the controller serial number.

The number shown there only contains one letter at the start, then 6 digits, a hyphen and 3 digits. The form does not accept this number and says: We're
sorry, but something went wrong on our end. Please try again later.

I have tried on many occasions but it won't go through. Neither myself or customer services at Amazon have been able to contact Microsoft. What can I do?

And i cant get ahold of literally a single human being to ask about this. Im frustrated.

Same problem here. Controller is UnResponsive unless using it USB attached. Wireless isn't working. Holding the jewel button shows the shut down console menu but nothing about the controller itself as if it wasn't connected.

I just bought the covert forces controller and I'm experiencing the same issue. The d pad is unresponsive. I'm currently in possession of the controller and retail packaging, and it's still unresponsive.
