Unreasonable NTFS constraints for game install (error 80073d13)

Hello,

I have again a problem of a game not installing on my PC, this is now "No man's sky", included in Xbox game pass PC. My Xbox App si up to date (version 2005.1001.22.0), my Windows 10 is up to date, and I'm not alone having the problem.

The error is "Error code: 0x80073d13", the C: drive is not recognized as NTFS, even if it is NTFS and Windows is installed on it.

The problem seems to be the allocation unit size of NTFS, if it's different from 4096, some games can't be installed.

First, the need for NTFS file system is a big constraint : can't use a exFAT drive for instance, but if some errors occurred on specific formatting options, this is just absurd.

Microsoft really need to fix their Xbox app and store. All others game stores on the market are way more friendly and with less constraint, Windows store is the worst, and we pay for a service (Xbox game pass PC) but we can't even use it because of these
kind of stupid errors.

I hope it will be fix very soon.

I'm using a cloud hosted PC for gaming. The storage space is probably hosted on large volume devices with more than 16TB, which explains the higher unit allocation size. On my own personal PC allocation unit size is 4096 and I don't have this problem.

I think you're probably right about the encryption method. And this problem doesn't occur on every game in the store, but who knows why...

The point of my post is that the end user shouldn't worried about those restrictive and not documented constraints. I don't have another drive available, and I don't want to deal with sysadmin tasks and allocation unit size for playing a GAME !

Totaly agree.

For me, now it's state of decay refusing to update cause "my drive is not ntfs"...

I can install the game, play for 2 weeks without problem then a weird bug lock me. A weird bug not corrected and present
from almost 2 years.

This is not normal for a payed service.

Hi,

I'm curious to know why your NTFS drive allocation is higher than 4096? Anything higher is only really used for storage drives beyond 16TB.

Unlike other download services Windows Games and Game Pass games are encrypted. I can only assume their encryption method does not support unit sizes that are not the standard 4096. Do you have any other drives you can install games to other than the C:\
drive?

Hello ShinoDark. Have you checked your C drive to make sure it is not full because if it is then The game can not download. You should try to get your games to the D drive Because the C drive is the main source for your PC. Everything goes to the C drive
unless you change it when you download something. Before you completely download the game, change it to the D drive but If you do not want it on the d drive then you would have to delete Files in the C. Let me Know If this helps or If you need Help with anything
