Unknown email addresses linked to my Microsoft account userid

Hi

I used a Microsoft link to check what my userid was for my Microsoft account (a live email account). It came back with my email address but said my account email was also associated with a Hotmail account. The Hotmail account isn’t mine (I don’t use Hotmail). I did suspect my account was hacked at some point but have changed passwords etc. I’m guessing this means that someone has put my email address as a recovery email? which means they must of logged into my email and got the code to verify it at some point? Otherwise I don’t see how else that could have happened without my input.

So my question is…..how do I get my email address/userid disassociated from this random persons account?

But also what else could they do with my account? I’m unsure what ‘associated with my username’ actually means.

To clarify I can log to my account fine and I can’t see the Hotmail address referenced anywhere!?

You can not change email address if it is linked to a Microsoft email account, @hotmail, @live, @outlook as doing so will delete the email account and all other Microsoft services linked to it.

Can I change the email on the overall Microsoft account (that the Xbox profile is linked to) to my child's email, and then setup a new Microsoft account with my original email so I can then just use my Office (Word, Powerpoint, Excel) subscription from that?

My issue is I need to keep my Office subscription with my email address - - which is also the address of the Microsoft account overall. And my email / Microsoft account is linked to the Xbox profile used by my child.
