Unable To Set Custom Avatar Image As GamerPic

Yes, the reality is that avatars have died. Interest in them has died and nobody is bothered about them anymore. Custom Gamerpics have completely taken that over. I think if Xbox had the same generic 25-50 gamerpics that everyone could choose from, then
avatars would be more popular as people like customization. But then they introduced custom gamerpics where you can upload any image you like from the internet, which makes your profile completely customizable, so that effectively killed avatars. 👍

Custom images are only available for adult Microsoft accounts.

1. Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide.
2. Select Sign in, choose your profile, then select My profile.
3. Select Customize profile > Change gamerpic. (You’ll need to select Switch to gamerpic first if you’re replacing your avatar with a custom image.)
4. Select Upload a custom image and choose one to use from your connected device or OneDrive.
5. Select Upload.

I'm not sure why they have changed it friend, but here are ways to change it:

Changing your Xbox One gamerpic

Every profile gets a gamerpic, the picture shown next to your gamertag. You can change it whenever the mood strikes. Or, upload a custom image of your own.

To change your gamerpic:

1. Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide.
2. Select Sign in, choose your profile, then select My profile.
3. Select Customize profile > Change gamerpic.
4. Choose a gamerpic.

Make your avatar your gamerpic

To take a picture with your avatar:

1. Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide.
2. Select Sign in, choose your profile, then select My profile.
3. Select Customize profile > Edit avatar.
4. Press the Menu button on your controller and select Take a photo.
5. Switch between the Animations and Background tabs to select the pose you want.
6. Position your avatar on your chosen background.
7. Select the View button on your controller to take a picture of your avatar.
8. Select Save as gamerpic.

Note

You can also select Email picture to email the gamerpic to your Microsoft account.

Upload a custom image

To upload a custom image, connect a USB device with a JPG or PNG image on it. You can also grab an image from OneDrive (available in the Microsoft Store under Apps) if you have it installed on your console.

Are you receiving any kind of message or error while trying to add a custom gamerpic ?

Are you still having problems using a custom Gamerpic? I don't know if it is a known bug but this is what I did to enable custom Gamerpic.

My Profile > Privacy Settings > Game Content > You can see and share content

Set the option to "Everybody" in order to upload and use a custom Gamerpic. Anything other than that and your custom Gamerpic reverts back to an avatar or one of those generic ones.
