Unable to select default install drive.

None of my games will update and new ones will not install. I believe this is because I can not select an install directory.

In XBOX App > Settings > Install Options on a Windows PC:

When I open this settings screen the drive selector is always blank. I can click on the drive selector and see my list of drives. I select my install drive from the drop-down list. It seems to be selected. If I move away from that screen (e.g. go up to Account) and then go back to Install Options the install drive is blank again.

I have ticked "Ask me for install options on every install" but it doesn't do that either.

I understand that you are having trouble selecting the default installation drive in the Xbox app, but don't despair, I will try to help you fix the problem.

You must follow the following steps to the letter

Repair the drive: If you are using an external drive, make sure it is connected to your PC

Next, open the Xbox app and go to Settings - Installation Options

Select the “Change app default game installation location” drop-down menu and change the folder to the desired drive

You may see a message that says “(Drive

requires service.” If so, select "Repair Drive"

Rename the WindowsApp folder: Try creating another windowsapp folder by renaming the windowsapp folder to something else. You should now be able to put games on your D drive or whatever you are using for this step.

Finally...

Reinstall the Xbox app: If the above steps don't work, you could try uninstalling and reinstalling the Xbox app.

Goto Settings>System>Storage Devices and select Internal drive then select Install here by default.

Hi DogRox1,

in the manage storage section the drive where installs go to by default should have a blue triangle in the corner. I have the same setup - when i select the internal drive I get the 'install here by default' option as my external is default.

If you don't get that option when you select it and the blue triangle is on the internal drive please post back as we might have to see if other troubleshooting will help.

Set you external hard drive as default location in the settings, and every game will be installed there by default no matter whether install was triggered manually or from PC or mobile.

To do so, follow these steps:

1. Go to Settings on your Xbox

2. On Settings page, go to System, and then select Storage

3. There, on the right you'll see all the drives including your external drive.

4. Select your external drive where you want to install games, and press A button on controller.

5. This will open the menu. Here select the option "Install here by default".

Then to install games from PC or mobile, you will have to trigger the installation remotely. To do so

1 .Open Microsoft store App, or use Xbox.com

2. Find the game that you own and want to install.

3. There click Install button and you'll be prompted to select a device where to install. Select your Xbox One and proceed.

Go to Xbox Home.

Insert the game disc into the disc drive. Note After you insert the disc, the default option is for the game to start automatically.

Select the game you want to install to your hard drive.

Press the X button  on your controller.

Select Install.
