    For those of you with a similar problem - problem solved

    I got an error message on Xbox (360) entering a redemption code with a 12 month Live subscription - got an error message that the code was not valid.

    I got a spinning green xBox logo (waiting) on xbox.com when attempting the same redemption. I updated to the latest version of Silverlight (on a Mac) but still got the spinning logo and eventually (if I waited) I got an inactionable server error message.

    Although I thought the problem was with the redemption card I purchased over the Internet, it was actually because I had a paypal account loaded from years ago when I set up the xBox and had a trial Gold account. Once I removed the Paypal account from my
    profile, I was able to move past the spinning green logo on xbox.com and get to the redemption screens. The code worked the first time.

    Microsoft XBOX team - please correct this problem, it's clearly a bug both on the Xbox Live code redemption screens and from xbox.com

    activating membership

    I purchased a 3 month xbox live gold membership card, but i am unable to redeem it to start my gold membership. when I try to do it on my console, it says the code is invalid for this purchase, and when I try to do it online, the redeem code links take
    me to microsoft windows 8 download. Please tell me you do not have to activate your gold membership with a credit card, because I do not have one... HELP!!

    Cannot redeem Office 365 promo code for 12 month Xbox Live Gold

    Error Code: 8016A0FA – Appears when you try to redeem a gold membership card on your account and are unable to do so because you already have the maximum 3 years (36 months) of Xbox LIVE Gold time.

    When you get the 2 year mark with your gold subscription time, you will then be able to redeem that code on this account.

    Did you redeem the code on the Xbox 360 console? If you did, I would suggest redeeming the code on your computer.

    You can redeem all types of prepaid codes, including Xbox gift cards, Xbox Live gold cards, and Xbox Music Pass cards, on a computer and have them applied to your account immediately. Here’s how:

    1. Go to www.xbox.com

    2. Sign in

    3. Go to the "Xbox Live Gold" tab and click "Redeem Code"

    That's it! Your Gold membership will be applied instantly.

    If you did not receive a card, then I think you will still need to purchase the membership. Usually, those deals with the Live Membership come with a card or it is on your receipt. If you are unable to find the code, then you will need to purchase a regular
    Gold membership on your Xbox.

    You don't enter the code in the game itself, you enter the code on Xbox live. The same area that you would enter the codes to redeem microsoft points or gold membership cards.
